Hello people ... I need some help here . I have automans mini terrarium tek that is now 100% colonized .
But i didn't do everything as discribed in his tek . I removed the "cake" from the cup and placed it again in a plastic bag to keep the humidity stable and high . I think maybe i could get more shrooms out of it . But i have a question now about the light ...
What to use as a source of light . I was thinking to make a small device with a 9v battery and one christmas light ( it has to fit in the incubator ... ) ...
What do you think about that ? I had some problems becose my batteries got wasted every night , would this last any longer ...
And yeah , when should i expect pin formation after exposuere to light ???
Thanx for any help people ...

Go to Wal Mart . They have small fluorescent lights that run on batteries. Light in the blue spectrum works best such as a grolux aquarium light or plain fluorescents. IMHO, fluorescents are best!!

They dont need alot of light. All I do is turn on a small flourscent light for 15 minutes a day and have never had a problem. The only diffence is that my shrooms dont grow up straight.they twist and curl all over and in knots.I dont mind because space isnt a huge issue and I actually like the way they look. But it seems 15 minutes is more than enough per day to innitiate pinning.beyond that it just guides them in the right direction.
So if you have all your mini cakes in baggies, then just take the ziplocks out 1 time a day for a 15-30 minutes and put them back in your incubator ..I would think in your case it wouldnt matter either which direction they grew in,since they are in bags.

did you put casing over? such as verm. if you did make sure you mist it, and mist the inner walls of the cup.

I just got the cake out , and put it in this plastic bag full of air with relative high humidity .
Ah , so i just need few minutes of light to get pins , thats great news , becose i thought it needs to be on light all the time ...
Well , till now it got minimum 20 minutes light every day ( untill my batteries wasted later ... ) and i still don't see any pins ...
Why ? What should i do ?

3 more days passed , but still nothing . It is exposed to light most of the day time ( not in night ... ) , and the temperature is about 19 C degrees ... I change the air in the air bag every few days ...
Why is there no sign of pins !!!????!!!! what should i do ?

That bag looks awfull dry inside, are you misting it to keep the humidity up?I dont see any water droplets. If not I would start.

There are water droplets on the other side of the bag ( it's not visible becose i turned it so the cake could be more visible ... )
I think the humidity isn't the problem ...
What could be the reason ???

yes besides humidity, you need good air exchange. You cannot just shut it in a bag.It needs alot of fresh air,at least 2 times a day. Then as soon as you close the bag back up,mist the inside real good.
