First bulk grow along

Hello everyone. I'm inviting you on my adventure. The good, the bad, and all the advice I can get. I used Foomans wbs Tek and eatyualive's P2G Tek. Both to the word, I will be posting pics as they go and maybe with help from you guys, and girls. I will learn and learn. So here we go, I inoculated 12 brf jars with B+ let them fully colonize. I made up 7 WBS pints and inoculated with one cake split between the 7. This was done last night. And I know there is nothing happening in the jars this morning but here are the pics. Please follow along. I know I'll need all of your experience and help. Thank you, hope you see you there whole way.

I checked on the tek you're using and it seems like it's up to date, even if it's 13 years old, lol.
So you basically did grain 2 grain... but with BRF 2 Grain? Eep! What is your sterile technique like? Did you do this in a SAB? Tell me more about this BRF2G technique. I'm not saying it can't be done, but this seems like a risky inoculation method. I'm curious to see how this goes.

Thank you for your curiosity I hope it works good. I used a SAB, freshly made WBS jars, cooled overnight. I wiped out my SAB and lysoled, waited 20 min, sprayed inside with a water and soap mixture. Wiped everything down in alcohol before going into my SAB and wiped everything again right before hand. Opened my cake and used a small fork to break up cake and dumped some into each. Barely opening the WBS jars just enough to pour into. I'm hoping allot of people join in on this adventure. Thank you all.

Did you sterilize the fork? Also did you remove the dry verm layer off the top first?
My reason for asking these two items is that the fork could be a vector for contam, and the dry verm layer is a "filter" layer, so there may be contam stuck to that dry verm layer. I'm hoping to help isolate possible vectors that could introduce contam so that you can remove them later if you choose to go this way again.

I didn't sterilize the fork, I wiped completely down with alcohol and wrapped in an alcohol paper towel afterwards and left wrapped up till ready for use. That's the only thing I wish I would have done. And yes, I did scrap off the vermiculite layer on the top, hopefully enough anyway. My mycelium had grown up and into the top layer. If I start seeing good healthy growth in the next few days I will try the same Tek to 7-10 WBS jars with GT. I never knew how addictive this hobby is

I know right, I'll be adding pictures every other day or so. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. And if it takes off well, I'll throw in pictures of the GT that's in the batters box, and probably how my agar work is coming along. This might just be my everything grow along. Can't wait to get to my shoeboxes and monotubs, hopefully with this grain, And my PF Tek in my humidity chamber. Only 1 cake inside right now. I'm hoping people will come along with this journey.

Hello again. Well, tonight I did a tiny bulk. I used 1 half pint cake to 1 pint coir. 1:2 ratio. Sadly I'm not sure whether it's B+ or GT. Sadly, haven't taken any pictures yet. Will post in the morning. Thank you

Almost 48, showing mycelium growth. So far so good. Here's a pic and one of my first agar attempts. Just happy it's looking good for far.

Depends really I use oats and corn. I use corn cause I have unlimited supply of it. I'm like your girlfriend I also hate the smell. I personally like both corn and oats. Some people don't think corn is good though.

Yeah the first time I used wbs my house smelled for day's! I only soaked it for 12 hours and the smell was still that bad lol. I found a way around it though. Just put it in your fridge for 24 hours. not only will it work extremely well but there's no smell 😊👍.

You should have smelt my grow room during the winter. Smelt like a cow barn. My suggestion is to finish up this project and try oats next.

I second this.
I find my WBS is harder to balance water and gets contaminated faster than the rye/oats I was using before.
Going back to cleaner grains next round myself.

I'll probably buy some rye berries next time. There really not that expensive when you consider how easy they are to work with. Amazon sells it for a good price. I regret how cheap I am sometimes lol.

You're not the only cheap person. Just wait until it's harvest time with your first bulk harvest. Take a big smell of that earthy smell for me.

I recently did 40 jars with WBS. Not one contaminated. Not freaking 1 ! I rinse them extremely well! Takes like 30 rinses. Then I PC for 2 hours. After it's done I knock them up in a still air box.

I have read that WBS contaminates easily, but was quick colonizing. I can't say from my experience, these are my first 7 jars of WBS. I have read oats colonize quickly as well. I have heard they differ brand. any brand suggestion? I have a few different farm stores I can shop around. I thought about going nothing but millet, but from prices I seen its pretty expensive when your doing a couple dozen jars.

I used great river brand from Amazon. Had no problems even though at the time I didn't have the right kind of PC

3 days into it. The jars are all looking good so far. Here's a picture of the one leading the pack.
 And here's a different jar.
One quick question?????? Should I do a first transfer from this plate? My first ever transfer, I'm worried but have read Tek after Tek. It's the size of a nickel/quarter. It's so pretty though I don't wanna mess with it.
 Thank you
