How do these bags look?
    #25941751 - 04/18/19 02:45 PM (4 years, 11 months ago)

Got these from a vendor with good reviews - inoculated on the 9th of this month (used the oven method, I know it's debated, but I did sterilize really carefully). I have been incubating them at about 76 in a tub, with a water heated tub below. One of the bags is colonizing more than the other, but they are both are showing growth, and it's only 8 days in. This is my first time growing, so I am learning along the way. Just hoping someone with experience could tell me how my bags look.

I inoculated with B+ spores. I also am super conflicted on if I should keep them in total darkness or not.

The oven method isn't debated, it's not sterile. Use a SAB in the future. That said, you don't really need sterile in self-healing-injection-ports on bags like this. As long as you flame sterilized the needle you're good to go.

Unless your house is below 60f you don't need to heat them. It's a bad idea to do so no matter what, it's just going to make things worse for you.

There is no reason to ever keep any mushroom related items in the dark.

All of those things are very outdated information at this point. What Teks are you following? These are the most up to date methods, no need to debate on what is good or not: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24297804

I am following the guide provided by the vendor of the supplies...

Why would keeping them around 76 be problematic?

That vendor is telling you bad information. We don't like kits around here because they are 90%+ bad information for hobbyists.

That high of a temp is far more likely to give good environments for bacteria to thrive in than cube myc. Especially if you're doing it in a moist hot water bath.

Hmm. Well, I trust you guys know much more about this than I do, but I have also ready on multiple forms that people like to keep the temps around 75-80 degrees, but always under 86? Maybe that's wrong too. Do the bags look like they're doing OK thus far?

If any of those forums are Reddit, then you can ignore 90% of what you heard there too. Anywhere that talks about "myc piss" as though that's anything but bacteria is lying to you.

The bags seem ok, but it's hard to tell with so little happening. Just wait and see. Put it in light on a shelf out of the dark for a few days and see what happens.

It’s best to keep them at room temp 68-72f. Incubators give bacteria and other contamination a head start. It’s hard to say if there looking good yet, they need a couple of weeks.

Okay - I will drop the temp and keep them in my living room where they'll get indirect light.

Hey guys. So my bags have continued to grow. I see a little bit of weird stuff, but I don't think its contaminated, I think it's just the grains being wet and separating a bit.

What do you guys think?
