Trip room lighting - rain projector/laser/strobe? * 1

We are moving soon, and I kinda want to set up the living room at the new place with some trippy lighting to give a good set/setting for future trips. While something kaleidoscopic or a star projector would be cool, what I would really love is to set up a rain lightshow. One of my best peaks was at a friend's while listening to a rain track. I would like to recreate that experience with lighting added. I'm just not finding much online for products or DIY. Any ideas or recommendations?

I don't have a particular budget in mind, will pay good money for the right lighting. What do you recommend?

Pink salt lamp is great for tripping. Relaxing and easy on dilated eyes. I've got a round one. Orange ones are a bit dark, the mood wasn't right when I had one of those.

Had a rotating laser universe projector as well for a long while. Starts to mess with your head after a while when tripping. I think most projectors will get like that.

My phone has an app uses the phone's mic to change the colors based on the sound going on in the room, kind of like an eq. I watch a lot of live concerts, It seems to enhance that.

I have a lava lamp that I won from lavaworld.com. I was in college like 20 years ago, the ups man showed up unexpectedly. Opened the box and it was a lamp from them. :smile:

I still have it/use it. I don't know if they still do their giveaways, but I thought that was pretty cool.

I actually got a couple glow lamps/projector lamps recently. Blisslights skylite is my favorite. Looks best with 2. Glad I accidentally ordered 2 haha. I also got a Soaiy aurora borealis. It's only good if you remove the plastic dome. Lastly, I ordered a delicacy water movement lamp. That one is OK, but the gears are cheap and so there is some robotics to its movement. I wasn't able to find any cool rain lights. I really dig some of the glow lamps posted here. The mushroom ones make me want to get some forest style furniture... Like a stump table and whatnot. Lava lamp is definitely on the list. I could have an indoor outdoor living room! Star projectors and aurora pointed at the ceiling, some nature-themed glow lights, and some furniture and decor shaped like trees. Surround sound nature tracks and whatnot. Still gotta figure out rain, though. I thinknif I had a laser projector like the skylite, but had it rotate the entire lightbut wihh a barrier to prevent looking directly at them, aimed at the wall and spinning fast enough would look like rain. I am just hoping to come up with something that looks like it's falling from the ceiling. Might have to just get a projector and experiment.

Flip the main breaker on your house line to the off position. olive oil lamps are reasonably safe and give a nice light that is workable.

Most electric lights work on a very high frequency strobe. This takes its toll on your senses and prevents a certain type of subtle flourish from developing. Distractions work.

The birds that follow the sunrise fly in pairs. Dependent on each others foils to stay between the...?

Pretty flippin' awesome projector. It has mics on it so it reacts to music, accurately too. Three different colors, 2 laser colors and one LED light. Great features for the price. Only down-side is the little symbols that get projected thru the lasers are silly/child-like. Still a great purchase, definitely keeping this laser/LED unit. Using it right now to some Psy-Bass, tripping out to the light show.

A few Lava Lamps always treated me right.  Don't overlook those.  Beyond the actual lamp itself, they create a really interesting pattern of shadows on the ceiling above them- try putting them up on a shelf and turn off all the lights except the lava lamp and see what I mean.

And for what it's worth, some people are prone to overstimulation while tripping, and it sounds like you're gonna have some pretty heavy light show type stuff in there.  Sometimes, subtle is better.  Food for thought.
