The "My Dog Died" Thread
    #25936663 - 04/15/19 07:40 PM (2 months, 30 days ago)

My dog died. Had her my whole life essentially, died in my arms on the way to the vet.

Idk, I figured a good amount of people probably want somebody to relate to in times like this. If you have a dog or pet who has died and wanna talk about, I guess this is the thread. No "youre a bad owner" responses either. Dog stories and supportive words only, you heathens.

My family got a dog around the same time I was born, he had to be put down when I was 16. For a dog thats hella old.
He had a good life, but one of the hardest things I've ever done was feed him his last meal (steak and eggs) and take him to the vet to be put down.
I think about him all the time. Honestly it really fucked me up as a teenager, I didn't cry for years after that.

Fast forward 10 years and I now have a German Shepard / Golden Retriever cross. He just turned 2. I know one day I will have todo the same with him.

Owning animals you have to understand that you will most likely out live them, all we can do is give them the best life possible while they are here with us.
I feel your pain, its gets easier with time. Sorry for your loss.

Thanks man.. Mine was very sudden.. Never knew it was her last meal or last walk... She just all the sudden threw up everywhere, had a seizure, and died in my arms. Mouth open with her pale white tongue out... Just so fucked. Im honestly crushed right now.

What's your opinion about getting another dog soon after?

Thats terrible. how old was she?

I couldn't connect with another dog for a long time after mine passed away..
I did get a cat tho, at first I was just trying to fill the void but eventually we became quite close.

Do you have fiends or family with dogs that you can "barrow" when your feeling down?
There was a few other dogs around that I would often take out for the day and hang out with. Helped quite a bit.

I'm just really, really sorry to hear it.

I have been dealing with my best friend and child that is my dog brushing with death a few times recently and he is 12 years old so it’s still a few year situation with his Addison’s disease he is the brightest, gentlest, loving, loyal, human dog That could ever have been for me. He is the other half of me to a large and sometimes unhealthy degree. If he went tommorow id feel lost and broken for quite a while.

This being said I’m so sorry you lost that best friend and thankfully I haven’t had to lose him yet but I will certainly have to sooner than later and I’ll I can tell you and myself is that you cherished that dog, loved that dog and gave it everything you could.

What it comes down to is I can’t make the hurt go away with words but all I can say is I’m sorry you lost her and the memories of her will forever be yours

That sucks, Dylan. Take some time and grieve before dipping back in. Whatever your next pup is going to be she/he's for sure going to be different from your last. Hang on to the good memories and keep them tight.

Sorry for your loss ND.  How old was your dog?  Any recent health issues?

Mine is over 11 yrs old and has had some health scares recently.  I’ve always been good to my dog but when the health issues began I really started appreciating even the small things that I might have overlooked previously.  I’ve made sure to take nothing for granted going forward and it’s brought me closer to my doggo.

My gf is at work and it's my first time alone at the house without the dog. So empty :frown: Everything I did revolved around that little thing
