Pins stop growing larger
    #25933936 - 04/14/19 12:28 PM (3 months, 20 hours ago)

Hi there,

I have some cakes already fruiting. The first pins are like an inch in height, but for two days or so there is no difference. They just won't grow any larger.

What's the problem? Too high or too low humidity? Temperature? What can cause them to stop growing?

Thx!

There are several reasons pins will abort. Would be best if you posted a picture.

pic would help.

low temp and lack of moisture in the cake are likely culprits.  Little to no FAE will do it too.  If i get a cake fruiting like a pin cushion, the fruits are often thin and about 2-3 inches tall.

Which FC do you use? How often do you mist? Pics are worth more than words. Gl

I use pre-colonized growboxes. Soak the cake in water overnight then put into the plastic bag for fruiting. A week later pins appear and another week later is harvest time. Usually. Always worked well the last years untill now.

I mist /spray the inside of the bag almost every day untill the first fruits appear, then I stop misting that often, maybe twice a week. I ventilate the bag once or twice a day. Temp is around 70°F /21°C.

Here are a few pictures.
Some cakes have very little pins, others have quite big fruits already, but also those big fruits don't grow anymore.

. . . .

Everything is aborting due to sitting in a choke bag. Need to build a proper fruiting chamber if you want proper results. Shit like this is why people hate kits.

Do you think I can rescue the cakes by putting them into a bigger FC now? They don't grow for 4 to 5 days now.

I'd just soak the ones with tiny aborts once again and transplant them in a big plastic box with enough holes. Or is it too late already?

It shouldn't be too late. You could try aerating your bag with small nail size holes about 1 inch apart and halfway up the bag.
