Over hydrating WBS ??? Possible???

Used Frank's Wild bird seed method and fell asleep. I soaked for 24hrs in water coffee and gypsum. Then simmered the mixture but fell asleep. Woke up and it was at a slow boil for probably an hour. The birdseed swelled up and most of the water was gone. My question is this wbs still good to use for grain jars or should I just toss it. Currently have it steaming off over some window screen.

From what I've read as long as the grains are not all burst or turned to mush, you can fuck around with grain preparation a lil bit. If the seeds are close to full water capacity you should be fine once it's sterilized.

I know this because I do not simmer my grains, I just soak them for 24 hours in hot tap water and that does the trick.
The purpose of simmering them is just to get them hot enough to steam dry in a timely fashion, not to hydrate them.

Id say start over personally. I have been messing with wbs recently and find that even just a 24 hour soak with no pass out simmer can be too wet. Got a bunch soaking rn that im about to go lay out on a blanket in the sun for a bit then load and pc. In my mind there is no way your grains aren't fucked, but a pic would help.

lol yeah thats screwed. Do over. Make a porridge out of it.
Dont even soak it that long. Boil some water and pour it on the WBS then soak for like 12 or so hours. Heat up the water until its steaming again (optional) just to help it evaporate when youre straining, do the TP test to make sure the surface isnt too moist and youre good.

I'm fairly new, but I've had success doing a2g xfers w/ WBS jars, and I actually add ~1-2tbsp of coir per quart jar for soaking up surface moisture and any excess water in my jars before I PC. It is working well for me thus far. Just something to keep in mind for the future

It's better to work on your grain prep and get it down pat than find crutches and stop gaps.
OP, toss your WBS and start again.

weigh before and after, very simple way to keep track of moisture levels.

Or at least set an alarm to wake you up before all the water boils away if you can't stay awake for whatever reason! If you fall asleep during a PC cycle then it will not be as simple as just a messed up WBS prep

The soak hydrates the seed after 24hrs. The boil is only to bring the water up to temp so when you dump the grains steam dry.
Personally I'd never ever add heat to wbs. Just soak, drain, pc.
Wbs can also be loaded a tad 'wetter' than other grains. PC 2hrs. I usually let wbs sit for a few days before incoluation.

I work a lot of hours. Let me tell you alarms are your best friend! Last thing you want is your PC running dry. It can easily destroy the PC and possibly cause other damages/injuries. IME even if you accidentally boil the grains and they don't burst from the boil they often will during sterilization especially if you use bags with Mason jar rings as the spacers(I'm open to new suggestions for spacers ) they burst anywhere they come in contact Edit: I DON'T recommend leaving a PC unattended. my wife is awake to monitor it I just actually mess with it.

I agree 100%, and I appreciate you layin' it down. I don't intend to use it as a crutch, but I am new, thus bound to screw up here and there notwithstanding the amount of research I do because haven't garnered enough experience. Until I do perfect my grain prep, the coir is just a mitigating factor.
