Baby squirrel * 9
    #25934640 - 04/14/19 04:30 PM (5 years, 3 days ago)

So, found this little guy in the yard cold and scared.

I’ve fed him some water and he is sleeping again.  I’ve got formula mixed for when he awakes.  I think he is about 7 weeks old and almost able to fend for himself.  He is in a box with a heating pad.  I emailed I local wildlife rehabber and hope they can help.  My guess is he is about 2-3 weeks from being ok to release.

Just wanted to share and thanks for looking!

I found squirrels a few years back.  Way younger than that though. They all died on me.

Best of luck

What a cutie! Tis the season.  If you have a wildlife rehabilitation center nearby give them a call and they will be equipped to take care of him- if they are at their state capacity and depending on rehabilitation law in your state they may give you advice on how to care for the little guy instead.  Squirrels can be a bit tricky to care for, can you see where the nest is?  His mom will still take him back if the nest is intact- and you may even see her looking for the little guy.

Edit: Also if your local rehabber doesn’t offer to take him- they may offer someone else’s number who is currently taking in orphans - and that can be preferable because some wildlife centers are lawfully compelled to euthanize orphaned animals if they are already at capacity for that species!

There are no nests near and it’s raining now.  If the weather is right I may try putting him out in the morning.  I am still undecided

He finished 5ml of formula (1 part puppy milk powder to 2 parts pedialyte)

As cute as squirrels are, they make terrible pets. Phenomagnome and the squirrel will both be far happier if he's able to release the lil' guy back into the wild.

I suppose that's one way to look at it. Personally, though, I find that hatred of life is just as irrational and futile as hatred of death.

I wasn't being euphemistic when I said that both Phenomagnome and the squirrel would be happier if the squirrel is able to be released into the wild. Squirrels generally hate being kept as pets. They're very energetic and intelligent creatures, and most people aren't able to provide the space and mental stimulation that squirrels need to be happy. And you certainly don't want an unhappy squirrel trapped inside your home.

I know it may seem cruel, but squirrels need to be free. Surely, it is better to die free and fulfilled than to live a miserable slave.
