 I was assaulted in the Harris Teeter parking lot yesterday

Update: I finally had trial and I won the case!!!! The defendant is ordered to take anger management classes. If he doesn't attend them then the courts will notify me for next steps. Justice has been served!!! Byahhh!!!
So yesterday I drive to Harris Teeter (or as i like to call it, the Hairy Teet) and park my car and get out.
I was about to start crossing the little main road that crosses directly in front of the main entrance of the store. I was about thirty/forty yards to the side of the main entrance, so wasn't directly at the main entrance, if that makes sense.
As I'm about to start my crossing, I notice a car approaching from the left on the same street, but they were a decent distance away so I decide I'm safe to cross.
I start my crossing.
I notice the car approaching is not slowing down.
I get about one-third way across the street before I have to stop because if I hadn't then I would have been hit by this car, for real.
The car passes me no more than one foot away from me.
This made me quite mad, so as the car almost killed me and was passing by me I hit it with my plastic re-usable bag.
Right away the car stopped and a guy gets out of the driver seat.
At this point I had walked behind the car and was about to get on the sidewalk, but I was still on the road when the guy got out.
He approaches me and immediately places his forehead directly onto my forehead, right in my face and says things that I can't remember.
After a few seconds of being forehead-to-forehead I turn away because this situation is just stupid and I didn't want it to get worse.
As I'm turning away the dude open-hand hits the side of my face and then pushes my head away.
I immediately snap a picture of his license plate.
I then continue walking to the sidewalk and when I get on the sidewalk I noticed the guy just spit at me, though most of it missed.
I keep walking and then the guy gets in his car and throws something at me... I look at the ground and it's a half-eaten chicken sandwich lol.
I tell him I'm calling the police and he says he'll wait. (In hindsight I should have took a picture of the guy's face at this point.)
After a minute he changes his mind and drives away.
The police come and I file a report. Give the best description of the guy that I can. I show the cop the picture of his license plate I took.
Harris Teeter's cameras barely missed the incident so I don't have that footage to help me out.
I did have one witness tell the cop he saw the guy hit me in the face.
So the cop tells me the car he was driving is leased, but they will try to find the car and try to find the guy that matches my description.
The cop said I might end up coming in to pick him out from a line-up, so that will be fun.
Any tips or advice? Similar stories you wanna share?

I never let anyone get that close to me ,next time create space and go into a boxing,karate stance,never turn away either,keep an eye always on the hands,too many lunatics with knives,box cutters in the USA ,don't hit ppl,s cars either,take note of what it looks like and if u see it parked somewhere after dark,then.........

for some reason I just didn't feel too threatened by him even when he was approaching me, but yea I probably should have not let him get that close to me.
If some one almost runs me over then I will hit their car with my bag or whatever, I'm not scared of doing that again, i'm not gonna let a car just get away with that kind of thing

I mean, okay, what if I did beat the shit out of him (I easily could have, I am very athletic and lift weights) and then he goes and gets his gun and stakes out the Harris Teeter for a few days, waiting for me to return?
That shit would suck and wouldn't have made beating him up worth it...

So I went back to the hairy teet today to ask them to check the tapes again because I knew the guy's car MUST be on video because he drove right past a camera.
The people that checked the tapes the first time must have not done a good job at all.
So low-and-behold, the manager on duty this time found the tape!
The video shows the front of the car and shows the car stopping, the door opening, but unfortunately cuts off to the side and you can't see the guy at all.
Video then shows the door closing and the window rolls up, still no sight of the guy, and the car drives past the camera.
The window is tinted and the video is very blurry so the manager said he can't see the guy at all.
However, he can give it to the police for evidence.
Police have video enhancing software so they maybe could get the guy's face.

It does seem a bit much to be pursuing this with the cops n all though.
I mean it's not like he actually physically hurt you right?
I had a guy knock me out by punching me from behind in the brain stem once after we had an altercation like this, after which he stamped and kicked me in the head a bunch of times when I was out cold, and I didn't even go so far as this. Took twelve stitches to fix me up.
I was just happy to still be alive.
What do you hope to gain? Justice? Because he overreacted to you hitting his car?

Daaamn son. I got snuck once over my shoulder from behind and I was pretty loaded on etizolam so I stayed awake the whole time, I fell down and hit the side of my head on a sharp piece of rock, it was a gravel driveway and had to stay a while in the ICU Brain Section. Nah it's not too much to pursue cops for what happened.
You can't just run people over in your car or force people to quickly get out of your way who are crossing a street on a grocery store's parking lot. And you can't just hit people in the face for something like this. If he maturely talked to me about what happened then maybe we could have each come to a positive conclusion.
Justice needs to be served.
And yea I hit his car with my bag, so fuckin what? The guy almost killed me. I don't have to justify my hitting of his car with my bag because of that.
He should have just accepted that I was mad he almost killed me and went on with his day instead of getting out of his car.
And no, he didn't actually hurt me, luckily for him. Because if he had hurt me then that would have triggered me to beat his ass.
And dang, that sounds intense what happened to you. Well I would need to hear the entire story to determine if you should have called the cops on him or not.

My point is that I wouldn't even have bothered calling the cops, even for that.
In this instance, you crossed the street when it was not 100% safe to do so, expected a car to slow down for you, got mad when it didn't, lashed out FIRST, and then the dude got angry and confronted you for assaulting his vehicle, yet did he not assault you.

BIG UPDATE!
So the cops called me today and asked if I want to pick him out of a picture line-up.
I said yes.
I go in and picked him out correctly.
Then the cop and I go to the magistrate and a summons to court has been issued to the man.
If he doesn't show up then a warrant will be issued for his arrest.

I just hope through all this you don’t overlook how lucky you are dude didn’t go Bruce Banner on you. Have you thought about this from the drivers point of view? Driving along, all of a sudden some crazy dude with a plastic shopping bag jumps out into the middle of the road. As he narrowly avoids hitting you, he hears a loud thump from the back of the vehicle.
Maybe he overreacted after this, but up to this point you are 100% in the wrong.
The way I'm reading this situation you deserved to be slapped.

Yeh, the whole situation sucks.
Almost getting run over sucks, having to slow down for some pedestrian sucks. Angry confrontations suck, getting hit or pushed sucks. Calling the cops sucks, going to court sucks, getting an aussault charge sucks.
I understand why you want revenge. But, I also tend to think it’s not worth it. I mean, you never got mad and did dumb shit? Life is hard and people don’t cope. You had a bad day, he had a bad day. A bit of patience and grace would have gone a long way, for both of you.
You say he doesn’t have the right to assault you, even tho your slow walking ass expected him to slow down. Both of you seem to have “male privilege” issues.
I dunno, I guess I -try- ( does not always work ) to be the kind of person that worries less about my “right” over someone, and more about being gentle with others. Life is hard, and everyone is going through something. Getting the law involved after the confrontation was over is just going to make it even harder.
And, stop saying you want justice. It’s vengeance you are after. You want him to pay for insulting you more than for any actual injury. If he would have actually hurt you, or you woulda bossed up at the time..... I would be 100% on your side. But, this call the “cops later cuz I am too bitch, but I like to make others suffer” shit sucks.
Anyway, I hope he gets a slap on the wrist. I hope you think about dropping charges. Could change his life and yours.

Right away the car stopped and a guy gets out of the driver seat.
At this point I had walked behind the car and was about to get on the sidewalk, but I was still on the road when the guy got out.
He approaches me and immediately places his forehead directly onto my forehead, right in my face and says things that I can't remember.
He says things you can't remember? What did you say? These are important details to the story.
I barely said anything to him. The only two things I said were, "I'm getting a picture of your license plate" and "I'm calling the police."
After a few seconds of being forehead-to-forehead I turn away because this situation is just stupid and I didn't want it to get worse.

I never directly replied to a single thing the guy said to me. Yes I told the cops. I wasn't jaywalking because it was in a parking lot. I didn't vandalize his car. The cops don't think I was being reckless at all or being disorderly. There wasn't a loud thump as my empty plastic bag hit his car... there isn't enough weight to cause that kind of sound.
He clearly overreacted. And nope I wasn't in the wrong, otherwise the cops would have told me.

You can't understand why we're on your side? It's pretty simple. You're being bitchy and getting police involved over quite literally nothing. Police have actual criminals to catch, and you're wasting their time because your feelings got hurt.

Anyone can get violent when pushed hard enough. If OP had assaulted my car, regardless of the object he used to do so, I'd be stopping and stepping out of the vehicle to have some strong words with him too.
Since we've only OP's side of the story, god knows what else he could have done/said to antagonise his aggressor.

I appreciate you saying this, I would have been down to talk with the man after he almost ran me over to discuss general parking lot rules and stuff, but nope, he went straight to physicality.
As I said in this thread, the only things I said to the man were "I'm taking a picture of your license plate" and "I'm calling the police." I said only two things to him. I didn't leave anything out of the story. I didn't respond to a single thing he said to me because the situation was past conversing when he immediately put his forehead against mine right after he got out of his car.

As you and others are saying, I apparently started this ordeal. So I have a question: why did the man who assaulted me leave the scene? Apparently he had nothing to worry about since he didn't start it, right?
If I was so in the wrong then how come the cops didn't tell me a SINGLE thing I did was wrong? I will proudly accept responsibility for any wrong actions I took, but there aren't any in this scenario. It's just a straight up assault and that man better get on the run if he doesn't wanna deal with the repercussions of his actions.

I didn't "walk in front of a car."
I started crossing the road with a safe distance between myself and the car approaching.
Yup, he didn't slow down for me, as he should have. That is the entire reason why this started.
Why is my ego getting dragged into this? lol it has nothing to do with that. My brain was the one telling me it was safe to cross.
He showed me who's boss? haha you're so silly. I was the one who was smiling at him as he drove past me after he assaulted me. Why was I smiling? Because I handled the situation like a boss and knew I had won because I'm gonna bring his ass to court.
I'm just gonna ignore your comment about child/adult because it seems like you're trying pretty hard to be rude at this point, which is ironic since you're a moderator.
I recommend you reread your posts in this thread. I won't be upset if you change your mind on the whole thing.

Yea, true that, I love every one on the Shroomery. I hope none of my posts make some one think otherwise.
And yea the cops followed up with it quickly... they and i have done everything we can do for now. We issued a summons to court to the man.
So, next time he is pulled over for anything the cop will run his name in their system and they'll tell him he needs to come to court on a certain date. If he doesn't go then a warrant for his arrest is issued. The police will let me know when that date is set and I will go to court that day to tell my story.

He also spit on me and threw a chicken sandwich. And said all sorts of nasty things that I can't remember the exact words of. He was out of control and needs to disciplined so he doesn't do it again in the future and seriously hurt some one, God forbid.
I know how to forgive, but you can't just forgive a murderer and not discipline them because then they'll kill more people, right? Same for this situation, except replace murder with assault.

I'm not going to recommend him go to anger management.
I just want him to learn from this experience and handle himself better in the future and stop driving like a lunatic to protect other people. And he needs to learn to use words instead of violence.

Who cares whether or not OP called the cops on someone you don’t know, and didn’t see the incident. One would think must’ve been quite ridiculous a situation to have him call of the police. Today, I saw something very upsetting that got to be not know of how to be of. Some father was being too rough to his young daughter. He was grabbing the about eight year girls hand and pulled her pretty strong mannered closet to him from across the table. His eyes were eyes no parent should look at a young one. Another man would see that look as if was looking to fight. And to be looking at a young child like that. ... I didn’t know what to do. Save the child from such father, go talk to the fella like ‘hey’. The girl hid in her shirt. I got distracted with something and soon forgot what was happening. When come back to looking at the two, a family of mother, father with baby in carriage confronted the man being as polite new born parents could be to the angry abusive father. The father was tryin to justify his actions as if it’s ok to get your daughter scared and crying. The mother of family confronting the man looked at me, I agreed and gave her what hopes she read as a thank you for being there and doing what I not know if I should’ve intervened or not. I thought I would anger the angry father more. All in all, it was awful situation and I know that the abused daughter need not have such father be in her life. For there are many people out there that I ant to aid in the growth of fellow brothers and sisters for this life we share can and best be gr8 and gr&. Prayers to those who are abused and may not have an out of the situation of abuse. That little pocket of pain the abuser puts another in robs the one from a most beautiful world.

I dunno, I wasn't there, so i can't say but when I was a boy, it wasn't uncommon for me to hear the phrase "quit your crying before I give you something to cry about". I never was really given anything to cry about, but I was still worried about the possibility. Was that abuse? I don't know. It doesn't feel like it in retrospect, even though my dad has the crazy eye when he gets mad. I sometimes feel like people are too anxious to get into other folks business without really knowing shit about the dynamics and context involved. I have a sister that once threw such a fit over being denied a pop-tart at 11pm that the cops were called by neighbors over her wailing, so maybe I'm biased.

I've been in a remarkably similar situation before. Except I kicked in the dude's door, and the dude got out, and we figured it out with our fists. Cops didn't need to get involved. We knew who won. Winner walked away without their friend's assistance.

The OP said he could’ve taken the fella in his own hands.
The driver of the car brought about putting one in position that one need not be in. He got out of his car to put hands to face of another citizen and that need not be brought about. Not good action.
I saw a fight in public park, a butte with view of city. This dumb pot headed kids came and were being a nousance. They picked a fight with some one who asked if they could pick up there trash. They raised there voices picking up aggression. The nousance left but returned shortly. They picked another fight with one. A man fell victim to aggressors. One who came to park and got picked in by aggressors when called obscene language, stepped out of car and walk to the one verbally assaulting him. A fight broke out. Two on one. The nousance kids thought it wise to attack one who was there with his lady for the first of sunny days of long wintered spring. The two beat the one as two on one would. Immature kids really ruined all the park goers day. Sad day it was to see people more eager to watch a fight and video record people hitting each other allowing pain to be inflicted than to try and break fight up. The incident ruined a relaxing day of peace and sunshine.

See, the biggest difference I see between what you describe and OP, is even if a brawl breaks out, which already means there was a breakdown in communication, cops are not called. There are no permanent legal consequences. What OP is describing is him pussying out of an actual brawl, and then trying to use police as a weapon. He's trying to ruin a life over an insult because he didn't have the balls to put up hands.

As stupid as the whole story does sound, all carried on to get to where is now, one justifying themselves on theShroomery.org.
In reality, it is best no punches were thrown. A simple thumb war could’ve very well ranked one superior to the tiff each put themselves into.
No reason to get on the OP’ case about not getting into a brawl. Sounds as ^^^^ the above poster likes to brawl, or meets to match if escalate to punch thrown. Some people don’t like to throw punches. It really hurts to get punch and to punch. Sure, you may have won the battle to who trash talking got to throwing, but, world peace. There’s days (like now) when I have this fantasy/desire to see such an incident or whatever it takes to legally be able to turn loose on someone and just get years and years of built up forgiveness anger out.
And that’s fucked up to say because what does that say about life that that would be an action that would ultimately calm me down for probably years afterward. You aren’t supposed to be walkjng around with that much built up pressure. That’s why you see really bizarre shit like office shootings, people don’t understand that forgiveness is not free or a bottomless well. But for the fact nobody stopped them, were they able to do what they did. This is what op doesn’t understand, otherwise he would have given right of way instead of walking out in front of the car and why he was fuckin stupid enough to hit the man’s car. What op should do is take the humble stance of realizing he is just as much at fault if not moreso because his immaturity couldn’t let him feel slighted, it’s the ego reaction of a spineless pussy.... and one thing I know at this point in my life, pussies get fucked...

I may sound like I like to brawl, but I am posting from the perspective that shit has hit the fan on full blast already. I normally walk away long before that point, but if it gets to that point, I will brawl over calling the cops any day. Bruises are preferable to warrants. The only times I've brawled were alcohol fueled, and I regretted both of them the moment I sobered up.
To me, it seems like OP avoided every possible chance to walk away, from ignoring the car and not hitting it, to walking into HT while the driver was getting out, to standing there while the driver got in his face. OP avoided many escape routes that would have settled the situation. OP wanted the brawl, but chickened out and called the cops instead. Which makes me think he's a pussy. If he walked away right away, I wouldn't fault him. If he took any of those escape routes. I would praise him, actually. But he didn't. He started shit, and had the cops end it for him because he could not.

I think the whole situation is a shame. Also the consequences of this leaked into the shroomery with tempers flaring and people being ported.
Let this serve as a reminder of how toxicity and negitivity can spread, this incident happened irl, and it spread into the shroomery. Personally think this thread should have been locked long ago but people like their popcorn

Dude speaking of asses getting beat... I got the ultimate karmatic justice last year.
I was deep in a benzo habit. I was with my physchotic ex, she was beating me while barred out and we’re parked in a town close to philly. I get pissed off and break my own rule and smack her ontop of the head a few times . Anyways a black guy (this gets so much worse I’m not racist plz) is walking down the street with 3 chicks and he sees me smacking her ontop if the head like a monkey playing bongoes.
He comes up to the cracked window as we’re yelling at eachother and says YO WHY YOU HITTING UP ON HER
Well I, being on 10+ mg of Clonazolam yelled fuck you n*g at the top of my lungs and kicked the car door open as hard as I could into his shins. What ensued was the most brutal asskicking of my life by a short buff 5’ guy.
After he was done kicking me in the face on the ground and the girls managed to pull him off of me, he’s about 10ft away and I stand up, blood in my teeth and all over my face and flip him off smiling. I almost got round 2 but he was so small the women could hold him back.
I deserved that so bad. I’m alittle over 6ft btw probably looked like a fool. Good humility.

I don't know what state OP is in. Here in PA the driver has the right of way unless you're in a marked crosswalk.

It's nice to see some one post in this thread with some common sense, so thank you. I agree, the fact that I didn't choose to hit the guy back is something I'm happy with. It's best to not get violent for sure.

OP started and then escalated a situation which need never have occurred and now is running to the law as retribution for his bruised ego.
The driver of the car in question is going to be dragged through the legal system because of this. The same thing happened to me when I clipped a couple of kids round the ear for throwing stones at my car many years ago.
It was thrown out of court in the end, but believe me; the impact it had to my life - being abused by police when arrested for it and having to attend court and worrying about the outcome - very much mattered to me.
It was a horrible experience, and when the provoking is done by the other party, completely unnecessary.
If you don't want people to fuck with you then don't touch their cars aggressively.
The lesson here is clear and simple. If you strike out with aggression, you must expect aggression in return.

You were shuffling along like an old grandma then windmill swung your purse at the guys car. When you got what you were asking for after taking the matter into your own hands you decide to call the law.
Why should you be able touch someones car without repercussion?
There are 3 sides to a story, your side, his side and the truth in the middle. Id love to hear his side
As I said ealier, why are you on this site if you are straight up and down by the book.
Drop the case and cut the guy some slack for only doing a bit of high school push and shove. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone

If the judge laughs at me then that's fair, I'll take it. Based on how I understand the law I should be 100% supported by the judge, however.

A proper punishment for the guy would be to have a misdemeanor assault charge on his record. Maybe some anger management classes, too, if he acts up in court.

I have sympathy for your position. i really do, but in all honesty, you should really try to learn a lesson here about picking your battles. You're pretty lucky that guy didn't take things further than he did. You never know who you're fucking with, ya know? I don't know that i wouldn't lay hands on someone that intentionally struck my vehicle and I'm a fairly mellow dude.
Let me tell you about a time that someone almost hit me in a parking lot. I was crossing the driveway and a raised full size pickup barreled in, missing me by literal inches. I was young and pissed off and feeling like i wanted to kung-fu the fuck outta the guy so i went marching over to his truck while hurling every insult and threat in my playbook. The guy started to get out of the truck and he just kept getting out. He didn't need the runningboard to step down from the monster truck because he was close to 7 ft tall and near 300 lbs. I had too much pride to stop reaming him out even though he could have squashed me like a bug. Luckily, he just laughed me off, but would the alternative have been worth it? Would bringing charges un-whoop my ass? No and no.

I am for sure lucky that the guy didn't take things further. People have gotten murdered in situations like this.
And I feel like I'm speaking to a wall here, but the only reason I hit his car with an empty plastic bag is because he would have hit me with his car if I hadn't stopped and stepped back. A car is a deadly weapon.
Otherwise I would have no reason to hit some one's car with an empty plastic bag. I am a very peaceful dude and don't resort to violence basically ever.
As for your story: I'm glad the guy had the control to just laugh it off.

But, here's the thing: I didn't want to fight back at that point because what if he had a gun in his car and just simply grabbed the gun after I returned a hit to his face and he just shoots me?

Another lesson in human behavior is that when a move like that happens it’s not only incompetence or ignorance, it can also be a very loud and clear ‘fuck you’ for no real reason, right off the bat. Like walking ‘through’ someone, bump shoulders, scuff kicks etc.. You ain’t even there muthafuka, what? It’s a sort of behavior I learned hanging out with the blacks, to me they own that move but white folk do it, ..I’m sure everyone does but it fascinates me how much communication goes on with the brothers when all it looks like is a dude standing there.

You shouldn't ever hit someone if you intend for them to be in a position to retaliate after. In other words, if you aren't prepared to injure someone in such a way as to incapacitate them at least temporarily, you should not engage in violence at all, for the reason you just mentioned.

I find that most men have a decent understanding of territorial and agonistic displays. If you make eye contact you should nod slightly to indicate respect, fast walk with chin down and shoulders forward means that someone is looking for trouble, arms crossed means that they feel threatened but want you to think they don't, etc.
Agonistic displays include things like clenched teeth or fists, mad dog stare, puffed out chest, raised voice, etc.
My girlfriend doesn't understand territorial body language at all and thinks that "boys are stupid"

honestly, its a pretty weak case. Nobody was injured. There was 1 witness who may or may not have seen every moment of the altercation. If I were the guy, I would just claim that lifeiswhateverthefuck hit my car and i got out to give him a piece of my mind during which time he pushed me or otherwise made me credibly fear imminent harm so i slapped him and threw my something or another as my first instinct to escape the dangerous situation.

Recently someone called the cops on me, A year later ive beaten the case but lost My home, 2 trucks, 3 buildings of tools and small equipment,1000's of dollars,1oo's of probation,court dates,drug tests, evaluations,classes, several nights in jail, bail money,Clients,work accounts. Now i live in a shitty basement trying to rebuild my empire all over a fucking bull shit phone call and alligation. Even if your innocent the system will suck you in and suck you dry.
So fuck you and your fucking cop calling over some petty shit.

Well, there is one witness who told the police they saw the guy hit me in the face.
The police saw the chicken sandwich on the ground which supports my case.

Sounds like a flimsy case of he said she said to me. If I was on a jury, I wouldn't convict based on the evidence you've presented. Of course, the guy might be a dipshit and just try to justify his actions instead of calling your story into question. I imagine he'll hire a lawyer though.

The cops had me come in to do a picture lineup and I correctly picked the guy out from a set of six pictures. The cops knew I was right because I picked the same face as the face that appeared online when they searched for the owner of the license plate.
The magistrate didn't issue a warrant, instead they will issue the guy a "summons to court" when he is pulled over next by the cops. At that point a court date will be set and if the guy doesn't show up then a warrant will be issued for his arrest.

sounds like the cops were appeasing you and have no intention of doing anything serious to this guy. I mean, here the cops would go to the address on the vehicle registration and arrest the guy if they had any intention of bringing charges. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but i don't think so. They obviously didn't take you seriously enough to think the guy is dangerous enough to pursue further than a court summons at some future date should he happen to violate a traffic law.

Surely this summons has a limit as to how long it is valid. I can't imagine that, say, a year from now, or however long, the guy gets pulled over and is served this old-news bullshit summons. If they gave a shit they would drive through his complex and find his vehicle, and knock on the nearby doors until they found him. Or even simpler, go to the manager's office and, showing the photo, ask which unit the guy is in.
The police aren't concerned with your frivolous and trivial "case". Grow a pair!

While I hate cops, you prob made the right choice to cover yourself. I've skipped the cops part and had it come back to bite me later... If it's an area u frequent, you could run into him again and should u beat him to death or badly next time if he were to recognize and attack u, this call to the PD could be the difference between pleading self defense in the future or potentially being made out to be the aggressor...so at least now theres a record of it...
So while I cant say if I would have done the same, from a legal standpoint, it was prob smart just in case

I do frequent the area the assault occurred in very often, so it definitely was the right choice to call the po-po. You make some good points.

Now, suppose you had not smacked his car with your sack. Suppose he drove on with you shaking your fist in the rearview. Would you have called the cops then? Yes or No.
If so, then why did you not just do that? You lost your cool and whacked your sack, just as he lost his cool.
If not - If you would not have called the fuzz & had he not gotten out of his car, then maybe the concern isn't over his driving and public safety then.

How can you say that I shouldn't have been in the road? How else am I supposed to get from my car's parking spot to the Harris Teeter?
Like I said, there was a safe amount of distance between myself and the approaching car so I started my cross and the car didn't slow down at all.
I don't know if you just don't know how to read or not, but like I said: the car would have hit me if I didn't stop and step back while crossing the road.
Obviously, having to do that in a parking lot is just not right because the car should have seen me starting my crossing and slowed down. So, this angered me and since the car was literally one foot from my body after I had to step back to save my own life I impulsively swung my empty plastic shopping bag at it. It's like almost getting punched in the face by a dude wayyyy bigger than you so you then decide to hit him with a single feather. I guess some people are afraid of feathers and have to fight some one because of it. They need to get a grip on life.
I may not have mentioned this one fact yet, but right next to where I was crossing the road there is a giant, bright yellow speed bump. Sooooo all signs point to the fact that the guy should have slowed down and let a pedestrian walk to the Hairy Teet in peace.

And you're wrong with the last part. The justice I'm seeking is two-fold:
1. Teach this guy a lesson that he needs to drive slowly in parking lots because people are walking around and he could easily kill some one with his car.

I would have tried to see if Harris Teeter had video of him ignoring my presence and nearly killing me. If they did then I might, yea. That would perhaps be a reckless driving charge. We can't just let people in cars do that to people in a parking lot. The reason I didn't do that is because I became angry when I had to stop my crossing and step back to save my life and I impulsively swung my empty plastic bag at his car as it was within arm's reach as it drove past me. If the car had just kept driving at that point then I would not have called the cops.
Yea, I admit I did lose my cool (who wouldn't lose their cool having to step back to dodge a car in a parking lot after you started a normally safe crossing?), but not as badly as how much the guy lost his cool. Since he lost his cool wayyy worse than me he is the one in the wrong in the eyes of the law, I presume. And the guy can't say he was acting in self-defense because that's obviously not true. He was the aggressor.
The lady slayin piano playin lifeiswhatyoumake is here because he stepped back and didn't let himself get ran over by a car.

look, my dude, I threw a bike lock at a car that almost ran me down on my bike one time, but i did that with every intention of beating some ass or catching a beatdown should it have connected. People are touchy about their cars. If you fuck with their car in any way, they're probably gonna want to fight you. I honestly don't think anyone ITT thinks you shouldn't be able choose to instigate a fight with some dude that almost ran you over should you desire such, it's just the cop calling that has everyone up in arms, since you should have known at several points that a fight was about to break out.

clearly there wasnt a safe distance as he wouldnt have been able to hit you.

Had you not swung your bag and just chilled out and waited till there was no oncoming cars like a laid back adult then he would have gone on his way and so would have you. He didnt hurt you as you have admitted and youre not disfigured or maimed so get on with your life without the unnecessary court crap. Some people drive like an asshole sometimes as youll find out after many years on the tarmac but its not your job to teach them a lesson about it.

once upon a time, about 20 years ago, i was heading into a grocery store...
it was a saturday morning, about 10 or 11, and i was with three of my friends. we were still up early from a long night of partying the day before, and decided we needed some breakfast to offset the remaining toxins still metabolizing through our bodies. i suggested we go to denny's or some shit, but one of the group decided she wanted to cook for us. now, i don't want to sound like i'm racist or anything, but if ever a mexican woman wants to cook for you, you let her do it. just sayin.
naturally, we need some supplies.
so we head out to the store. i pull into the parking lot, locate a spot, park, no problem. text book execution. was inside the lines and everything. and this was in the late 90s, so i didn't need to bring my own bags. we didn't give a fuck about the environment. we get out, and start walking towards the doors. we're joking, laughing, having a good time, sun is shining. great day. on our path we encounter a couple dudes getting out of their car, presumably fellow shoppers. the female of the group turns and whistles at them as we pass. cat calls at one of them, "hey sexy! how YOU doin?" or something of that nature. they turn to look but don't give any noticeable reaction. we keep walking into the store, thought that was the end of it.
we did our shopping and are now on our way out of the parking lot. i stop at the end of the lane for another car making its exit to the road, and while stopped i see in my rear view mirror one of those dudes from earlier. he's walking towards my car, waiving his arms in the air. he's obviously trying to get my attention, and i couldn't tell if he was upset. i thought maybe he wanted to talk to my friend that was whistling at him or something. i was wrong.
he walks up along the driver side of the car to my window, and i roll it down. "hey man, what's up?" he replies with his fist. landing one hard to my left eye. it almost put me out. i open my door hard enough to knock him back a few feet and i get out. i was in pretty good shape back then. i had just got out of high school, attending first year college, and was still wrestling competitively. it was the off season, but i wasn't out of shape, by a long shot. i wrestled 160, but was probably closer to 180 at the time.
i square up with this guy, and he runs away into the store. i start to chases after him, but my friends stop me. now, we had blocked up traffic pretty good by this point. there were tons of people around, tons of witnesses. there was a boy scout troop doing some kind of fund raiser out front, and an old mexican woman selling tamales. i could see the tamale lady was on her phone, she was calling the cops.
so i'm hanging back with my friends and still fighting with them to let me chase after this guy when the cops pull into the parking lot. and just as they are pulling in, the guy who assaulted me books it out of the store and around the back, and into the desert behind it. the cop pulls up to where i'm standing and identifies me as the victim. he asks me where dude went, i told him i didn't know. that's when we notice that a couple of the boy scouts were off to the side of the parking lot and yelling at us, and pointing to somewhere out in the desert. they had tailed the guy as he ran out and knew where he was hiding.
with the boy scouts tip the cops find and arrest the guy fairly quickly. i didn't have to press charges, the state did it for me. and it was a good thing too, because my injuries were fairly substantial. my left orbital was pretty well shattered, and i ended up getting some emergency facial reconstruction surgery that day. the emergency part was that one of the bone fragments was fairly close to severing my main optic nerve or some shit. i could have lost my eye, i guess. they took a bone graft from the side of my skull to rebuild my eye socket.
the reason the guy hit me is still kind of blurry, mostly it was a case of mistaken identity. he thought i was someone else. he was tweaking real hard, for one thing. had been up for a few days i guess, he had shit on him too, which didn't help his case at all, which was already fucked. was his third aggravated assault charge, and he was still on probation from the one before. he ended up doing time over it.

That’s why I have a reputation for having zero tolerance for bullshit that draws attention while out. I don’t even like being with people who don’t have a background training if I’m going to some hang out spot. When that guy tried to get your attention you should have dumped it and went on your way. There was nothing “good” that he could have told you... did you see the photos of xxxtentacion? It’s so easy to get cornered even if you’re conscious of the whole thing.
People are legit fuckin nutts man, it’s bad mojo to start tempting fuckers in areas of pride.. so important to stay safe, especially with others.

I’ve heard funky stories about those orbital breaks, how did that heal over time? Like for example when I broke my nose I got that deep deep bone pain in my brain. How did your eye feel, does it ache in cold weather etc? Did it knock your eye off aim any or make it blurry?

you know, i didn't make the connection until just now that you asked, but it all kind of makes sense. the vision in my left eye is worse than my right. when i had to retake the eye exam to get my license back after my dui, i actually failed my left eye. not bad enough to need glasses though. everything healed just fine. to look at my face you'd never guess, and because it was my own bone they used to fixed it with they said it would fuse together like it was never broke to begin with. there is still a small titanium screw in there though. and i got a mean scar on the side of my head. cant see it too good right now, but next week ill get my hair cut and post a pic.

hijacking the thread op may call the cops.
I was in mistaken identity scenario in sac town. 2 dudes in hoods kicked the door completely in, jam and all across the room and proceeded to beat the shit outta me and my buddy who where having a date like movie night(Trying to get some ass) at the girls apartment. Needless to say the comotion and shit breaking and screams and all brought the police. When they get done talking with everyone,us,lookyloos,standerbys,ect they say they got stabbings and shootings and no time for dudes with hoods. Then they take my friend to jail because you no your name gets ran everytime and he had a warrant.
girls expected me to fix the door. I bounced.

Update!
So the cops found the guy finally and we have court in one week on next Monday.
We will see what the courts decide on this incident!
He is going downnnnnn town.

I'm surprised the police even took the time to track down something so minuscule. You put all this time and energy and hate into something so stupid. Does it feel good to hold onto all that hate. Just let it go if you didn't sustain any injuries (other than to you ego) or medical bills from you provoking him into a confrontation.

Sorry, I'm with the OP. That guy was/is unstable. A little brush with the law might be exactly what he needs to help moderate his behavior in the future. Maybe he'll get ordered to counseling.

I watched someone indicate over lanes and nearly drift into another car cause they didn't check their blind spot tonight. Twice. To be fair, there was a thunderstorm happening around us so I can see attention not being 100%.
Now, the car that nearly got drifted into the first time. First off, he hung his arm out the window, with his middle finger out in the 'fuck you' sign for ages right after it happened. Real aggressive. Then he must've talked to his passenger, who then did it in tandem for ages too.
Now. This is a simple mistake. If you've driven a car for long enough, you WILL realise you aint perfect at driving, and you WILL fuck up once in a while. If there's no crash in involved, then it's all good. WE MAKE MISTAKES.
So having seen this, I really wanna make this guy understand that. It is my instinct to get in front of him and let him know that 'if you aint perfect, then how can you fuck with someone that's not? How have you any right to be a dick, when you've probably done the same shit, by accident?
Maybe I should be like OP, and report to the police every time someone isn't perfect, and act like I am?
Maybe, I should decide the rules as to what's OK and what's not, and call the cops every time I feel scared?
Are you children or are you men? Children snitch. Men learn. And grow. And realise it's not their place to 'teach people a lesson'. That's an immature child's game.

Regarding violent behavior or even threats: I was once working with a Grade A Asshole. A co-worker was going home in tears every night because of his behavior. (BTW it was my job to be the adult and smooth Grade A's feathers every few weeks because he was in charge.)
Anyway, the coworker's husband finally called up Grade A at work and threatened him. Grade A was wondering whether or not to call the police.
I said "yes, because you need to start the paper trail. When they find you in an alley with an axe in your face, that paper trail may be the only thing that makes them investigate him."
JMO.

I believe it's true. They also don't let you drive an unmaintained car or one with too much rust
Many people drive with horrible tires around here. It rains and there's accidents directly attributed to people not being able to stop appropriately in those conditions

I've barely put any time into this at all.
Going to court tomorrow will be just like running any other errand I do. Shouldn't take more than one hour I bet.

You've yet to learn some valuable lessons about some things.. if I were to go over this thread I could pick them out and make a list, but for now you seem pretty averse to any posts that are pressing to your current view of self.... these lessons are usually hard won through some rough trials, but they'll make you a better, stronger man, who is less prone to these kinds of behaviors - both given and received.
This thread is really disappointing man, because I did get a good vibe in general from you in other posts in past. This one is just so not cool, and your inability to listen to what the majority of people are trying to say is honestly a bit irritating. Not only are you refusing to listen, but you are being a smart alec and disrespectful, which further proves in my mind that I am indeed reading this situation correctly, and you are in the wrong on this thing....

You're right, it did take more than one hour. It took almost three hours. First hour was basically doing roll call twice because I was in a room filled with a bunch of other people who were there for similar cases.
So here's what happened:
The defendant, surprisingly, showed up to court. He hired a lawyer. I didn't because I don't need to.
Unaware to me, court today was an attempt at mediation and not trial. If mediation was not successful then we go to trial.
So finally my case is called and the defendant, his lawyer, the mediator, and me go to a mediating room.
We each tell our side of the incident.
Some interesting notes from the defendant's story:
- His lawyer opened up their defense with: "The defendant had just bought a new, pricey BMW." LOL are you fucking kidding me? What kind of amateur defense is that?
- His lawyer claims I hit his car with my hand and not my empty reusable shopping bag. He claims car damage.
- His lawyer says the defendant hit me in the face in self-defense for me hitting his car.
- His lawyer mentioned taking me to small claims court, but the mediator quickly dismissed that motion.
So after we both tell our stories the mediator tries to help us reach an agreement and to end the case.
The lawyer first tries to convince me to dismiss the charges. One of his reasons to try to pursuade me was: "The defendant is already at a loss by having to hire me." LOL am I supposed to feel bad for the defendant spending money on a lawyer? Nice try, not. I quickly dismiss his idea.
Then the lawyer and I agree that the defendant could take some anger management courses, but then the lawyer and defendant leave the room to talk in private. They return and the lawyer goes back on his word and says they don't want to agree on anger management courses.
So now the mediation attempt is complete and is unsuccessful.
We go back to the court room.
The DA calls me and we speak one on one for no more than one minute. He asks me why I swung my empty reusable shopping bag at the defendant's car. I say because he would have ran his car into me if I hadn't stepped back and that angered me. The DA then says, "so he hit you and spit on you? Disgusting."
I reply, "yeah."
DA says, "would you be happy if I offered the defendant eight anger management classes to successfully complete mediation?"
I reply, "yes."
The DA asks the defendant is that's what he wants and he replies, "no."
So then the defendant, his lawyer, and I go in front of the judge and the judge gives us a new court date for actual trial in early October.
I think the defendant misplayed this severely. He was offered two lifelines and he declined them both. He's just digging a deeper hole for himself.

The case of The Harris teeter parking lot road rage. It's strange how people get so worked up driving. You're basically sitting in a chair, turning a wheel and listening to whatever your little heart desires. Especially a BMW. Isn't the point of those cars to be super comfortable? im not saying you damaged his car but a mediator has no power to stop him from filing a civil suit against you if he wants to.
Right now the way it looks to me is he just going to continue this case for the next year or two until you miss a court date and get the case dismissed.
But hey atleast you cost him all those court dates a few thousand to get his attorney hopefully that will make you feel better about him smacking you.

Im guessing he didnt take the anger management classes offer as there is more to the story then swinging a reusable bag at the car.
Anyone guilty and looking at getting in trouble would have grabbed that offer with the quickness. Only a confident lawyer and defendant would proceed to trial when a easy offer was on the table. Im guessing at trial they are gonna drop a bomb shell you either forgot or arent telling us.

BIG UPDATE!!!!
So I finally had the last day of court for this case today. This was going to be an actual trial and not just an attempt at mediation.
I get into the court room and some random guy who works for the government came up to talk to me in private.
He asks me to tell him what happened and I tell him.
Then he tells me that the defendant is claiming I did $850 worth of damage to his car when I swung my empty shopping bag at his car, but he is willing to drop that counter-charge if I agree to drop the case.
I respond with, "If I damaged his car then why did he flee the scene?"
The guy responds with, "good point."
I say, "I want to keep going with this case."
The random man leaves and talks with the defendant and the defendant's lawyer.
A short time later the random man returns to me and says, "We're going to order the defendant to take anger management classes. So this should be a good ending for you, right?"
I reply, "yes, thank you!"
He says, "if he doesn't attend the anger management classes then we'll notify you and take next steps."
I say, "am I free to leave?"
He says, "yes."
I leave the courtroom and wanted to give the defendant and his girlfriend a shit-eating grin as I walked out, but decided that it wouldn't be worth it because, honestly, the guy could be triggered and try to murder me or something if he saw me in public again.
Knowing he has to go to anger management classes makes me smile because hopefully he'll learn to slow down in parking lots and not be a danger to the public.
Ahhh I feel sooo good, justice has been served!!!! 
So I never ended up taking the stand as you would expect in a normal trial, which might be why I didn't have to pay court costs... or do case-winners never pay court costs?
The defendant wasted soooo much money on his lawyer, too, I assume.
