Agar Slow Growth and Mainly Tomentose
    #25933188 - 04/13/19 08:55 PM (5 years, 9 months ago)

This is my first time growing and I'm trying agar out   I inoculated 6 plates using an inoculation loop with a spore syringe solution. It's been nine days and only 2 plates show growth and the other 4 have nothing. This seems to be on the long side of germination for a brand new syringe from Sporeworks, right? Note: I forgot to shake the syringe before using. Also, the agar may have been still warm from the pour.

Also, The growth is mainly tomentose and a little rhizomorphic in parts. This looks like mycelium to my noob eyes and that my final answer, but there's that deep doubt in my heart common in all noobs that it's mold. Please take a look and let me know if I should transfer. These growths are both in the same tray, imaged from the back (through the agar) because of condensation. You may see a vertical discoloration near the center of the second growth; this is where I cut in the agar with my sweet streaking skills  If you want more deets, see my long winded journal entry or ask here. Thanks in advance! :bow2:

First one and the left side of the second one look like mold. The right half of the second is where I would transfer from.

And the middle of the mid one next to the top half of the bottoms left side looks like the most confusing explanation ever.

My bad. I wasn’t aware I had to write at a first grade comprehension level. Was it the ‘first’ and ‘second’ that tripped you up? Or the ‘left’ and ‘right’? My five year old still gets those confused.

I totally understood you, Psilanthropist. I just don't know if I agree with you... The growth rate is consistent between all growth, the color is white, and it doesn't seem whispy like cobweb. It's just tomentose... That being said, I thought the exact same thing as you and it looks questionable, which is why I asked.

I do not know about pic 1, but look at pic 2.
From 7oclock to 11 it looks different.  I would transfer a small section
from about the 3oclock range.

In Image 2 I see what you are saying... It kind of looked like the difference was caused by the mycelium growing through the damaged agar  But It cant hurt to cut up a section just in case. Thanks for the feedback.
