Not embedded 🤦‍♂️

He seems a lot better than he ever did in the embassy. I bet the embassy felt more like a prison than that jail where he’s a social buttterfly.

The 'not allowing the video to be embedded' bit seems strange? like a way to beat up the story a little?

I agree a 7 year self imposed sentence in that embassey would be worse than being in a mainstream prison.

He best keep his mouth shut, never know who he's talking to in there.

He’s not really in any position to complain about someone spilling the beans on him or secretly recording him. He doesn’t believe other people should have any privacy, so why should he deserve any.

Some more on the Aus debate on Assange.

The ABC is the pick of the news media here imo, it's Federally funded by the Australian public, beholden to no one, fairly balanced to slightly left wing at times, and
highly regarded by most people (not including the far right) in Aus.

Well respected Aus journalist and 'advocate for media freedom' Peter Greste jailed for 400 days in Egypt after being charged with terrorism offences whilst working for Al Jezeera
gives his view on Assange and does well explaining why opinion is divided on whether his actions were justified.

This article popped up on my phone via a different link on Bing, a month after it was posted, which I thought was curious? Strange algorithm perhaps?
So I did a search for Nils Melzer.
I'm really starting to wonder how much of the story on Assange is a slur, as well as why no one has ever been charged over that horrific video?

Yeah locking yourself inside an embassy for seven years must be hell. He was free to leave at anytime. Whiny little rapist bitch.

You honestly surprise me at times, Koods. I really thought you were more intelligent than this, clearly i was mistaken.

Its usually the far right nutjobs on this site who make such sweeping assumptions while ignoring substantive facts.

One of those other links went into more detail about the 'minor rape charges whilst having consensual sex'  :flowstone: not sure how that works?
'Evidence' included a ripped condom with neither Assange's OR the complainants DNA.

The podcast below (as well as the posts here) really had me questioning my criticism of Assange.
Late Night Live with Phillip Adams is high quality journalism.
Adams had visited Assange in the embassy, and in the podcast aired 20th June, interviews Assanges lawyer, Geoffrey Robertson QC. It's worth listening to.

This may put a bit of a twist on things Alek Sigley by his own account the only Australian living in North Korea, went missing last week and was indeed detained by the regime.
But then, possibly due to Trump's surprise visit ?? he was released, after a line of communication was opened up via the Swedish governments embassy in NK and the Aus government.

Whether this has anything to do with Assange is a guess, however it is curious that the Swedish authorities are now choosing to look at the evidence a bit closer and have backed off a notch.

Obviously the rape charge is a set up for his role at publishing top secret documents.

Information security is the biggest threat to a Government, and also the largest weapon Governments use against their people.

Of course most people will never think about these things, because nobody told them on 6pm news.

It’d be great to know the truth for once.
To me the problem with the rape charge being cooked up is that it then becomes a conspiracy.

The only way to resolve this is through the courts and
I still think he has a good defence with it being in the public’s interest.

We’re his actions “unlawful’
Unlawful being defined as ‘without authorisation, justification or excuse’.
That’s my amateur legal opinion.

There’s really no doubt that Assange was working with the russian hackers. The guy sold out. He’s an unprincipled political hack.

The way he used Seth Rich’s murder to stoke conspiracy theories to further his own agenda was unforgivable. The man is an unscrupulous turd.

Except there's a ton of doubt.  It appears the reigning king of make believe (koods) doesn't want to give up his crown.

They may not be conspiracy theories.  As was already pointed out to you, "Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Seymour Hersh (the guy who exposed the My Lai Massacre cover-up during the Vietnam War among many other things) told Ed Butowsky that he spoke with an FBI insider who said the FBI DID in fact inspect Seth's computer, and they found that Seth WAS in touch with Wikileaks."

But you keeping on being our reigning king of make believe if you like.

Quote:
Julian Assange has been told he will stay in prison after the custody period finishes on his current jail term because of his “history of absconding”.

In June, then home secretary Sajid Javid signed an order allowing Assange to be extradited to the US over computer-hacking allegations.

A 50-week jail term was then imposed in the UK after he jumped bail by going into hiding in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

He would have been released from HMP Belmarsh on September 22, Westminster Magistrates’ Court heard on Friday, but the 48-year-old Australian was told he will be kept in jail because of “substantial grounds” for believing he will abscond again.

The WikiLeaks founder appeared by video-link wearing a loose-fitting T-shirt.

District Judge Vanessa Baraitser told him: “You have been produced today because your sentence of imprisonment is about to come to an end.

“When that happens your remand status changes from a serving prisoner to a person facing extradition.

“Therefore I have given your lawyer an opportunity to make an application for bail on your behalf and she has declined to do so. Perhaps not surprisingly in light of your history of absconding in these proceedings.

“In my view I have substantial ground for believing if I release you, you will abscond again.” Assange was asked if he understood what was happening, and replied: “Not really. I’m sure the lawyers will explain it.”

Another administrative hearing will take place on October 11 following by a case management hearing on October 21, the court heard.

The final hearing in Assange’s extradition case is due in February.

His lawyer declined to lodge a bail application? Did she feel it was a waste of time?

And this interview with the ex Icleandic Interior Minister was interesting regarding his views on Mike Pompeo and the FBI

Julian might not live to the end of the extradition process
Quote:
I was deeply shaken while witnessing yesterday’s events in Westminster Magistrates Court. Every decision was railroaded through over the scarcely heard arguments and objections of Assange’s legal team, by a magistrate who barely pretended to be listening.

Before I get on to the blatant lack of fair process, the first thing I must note was Julian’s condition. I was badly shocked by just how much weight my friend has lost, by the speed his hair has receded and by the appearance of premature and vastly accelerated ageing. He has a pronounced limp I have never seen before. Since his arrest he has lost over 15 kg in weight.

But his physical appearance was not as shocking as his mental deterioration. When asked to give his name and date of birth, he struggled visibly over several seconds to recall both.

The campaign of demonisation and dehumanisation against Julian, based on government and media lie after government and media lie, has led to a situation where he can be slowly killed in public sight, and arraigned on a charge of publishing the truth about government wrongdoing, while receiving no assistance from “liberal” society.

Unless Julian is released shortly he will be destroyed. If the state can do this, then who is next?

The link above provides a much longer and more detailed account of what is happening with Julian Assange right now, and how the US is working to ensure his extradition.

That will teach whistle blowers.

The lack of due process stinks

The claims of U.S. spying on talks with his lawyer, his own records being seized, not allowing him access to his own records,
whether the extradition treaty applies given the political nature of the case...

He needs to get this out of magistrates court imo.

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2019/10/30/assa-o30.html

Quote:
Independent federal MP Andrew Wilkie last week formally announced the establishment of a cross-party group of Australian parliamentarians in defence of persecuted WikiLeaks’ founder Julian Assange.

For years, the entire political and media establishment—including the parties and individuals represented in the parliamentary group—have suppressed any public discussion of Assange’s plight. This has been in line with the collaboration of every Australian government, Greens-backed Labor and Liberal-National Coalition alike, with the US-led vendetta against Assange.

Now, a group of parliamentarians, sensitive to the moods of ordinary people, recognise that the Assange issue can be buried no longer. It will become a mass question over the coming months. A number of the MPs hold their seats in marginal electorates, while others cover regional and working-class areas, where hostility to the government and the political establishment as a whole is at record highs.

Prior to the announcement, Wilkie, a former military intelligence officer who resigned in March 2003 in order to publicly condemn the looming illegal US-led invasion of Iraq, said that if extradited to the US, Assange “faces serious human rights violations including exposure to torture and a dodgy trial.”

The independent MP declared that Assange was being pursued for exposing war crimes, and stated: “This has serious implications for freedom of speech and freedom of the press here in Australia, because if we allow a foreign country to charge an Australian citizen for revealing war crimes, then no Australian journalist or publisher can ever be confident that the same thing won’t happen to them.”

Wilkie is co-chair of the group alongside National Party MP George Christensen. Other members are Nationals’ parliamentarian and former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce; Rebekha Sharkie and Rex Patrick from the Centre Alliance; Labor MP’s Julian Hill and Steve Georganas; Greens leader Richard Di Natale, deputy leader Adam Bandt and senator Peter Whish-Wilson, and independent MP Zali Steggall.

I like Andrew Wilkie (Independent) he has integrity  it's good that he has looked into this.
Di Natale and Adam Bandt (Greens) hmmm at least they are on board, they're a slightly useless pair though.

The strange part is George Christensen and Barnaby Joyce, full on National Party MP's getting onboard... it'd be like Matt Gaetz and Lindsay Graham going in to bat for Assange.
It's weird... most likely they can smell a few votes.
