Hi guys,
No I'm harvesting tub after tub and collecting some Wonderful specimens I was wondering... I'm also a beekeeper and love to make beeswax candles, what if I could make a candle mold of a mushroom... I never ever made molds by myself nor did I cast something but would love to hear your experiences and of course tips and tricks to do it myself Sheers

I have no experience with making a mold out of a mushroom but have made plaster and resin molds before which I think might be easier to achieve I'm not so sure of the mushroom maintaining its shape with the heat of the wax so I'm curious if someone has tried it. Perhaps you could make a plaster mold then cast that to make a candle mold? I don't know just an idea.

So what I was thinking... First make a mold of the mushroom just to make an epoxy copy or something of it. So I can add polymer clay to it to for instance make a base and to model out the irregularities... But I don't know anything about this whole thing, it is all new to me

The epoxy might melt the shroom thou, i would think. Worth trying thou.
Using clay then baking the clay would probably work.

Interesting thread.
I was thinking about molds recently too. I thought that it would be nice to melt plastic down and reuse it as one sees fit -- as in any mold. Maybe mold a water barrel?
Same with aluminum cans. I think some useful things could be made.
If I run into any answers, I'll post em here.
The ceramic mold sounds pretty promising, but how does one prevent sticking of the wax or plastic? Or would it stick at all?

Bee keeper you say? Have you heard the news about shungite preventing hive collapse? Shungite honey... check it out you won’t be sorry you did!
During the recent Washington state hive collapse one man had three hives that did not die. Shungite was attributable to the prevention of he collapse
Check out delfd clay, I dunno much about it but a friend was explaining it to me about a month ago and reading this ring a bell so I asked him what it was called I think it might help this thread

I don't know what material to start off with to be honest. That said thank you all for thinking along. I hope someone will pop up who tried this, if not I think I should source some material and start experimenting... I didn't hear about it @Raven44, but we are not really dealing here (in The Netherlands) not really with hive collapse thank god.

Hmm but if I want to use it for a candle... plaster isn’t the way to go isn’t it?

check out Amazing Mold Putty. you could make a tony wood flask and make a mold out of one half at a time. I love the idea though. was talking to a friend about making silver mushrooms from wild molds.
