It can be done without Strahl it’s just going to be a little trickier to keep it from becoming too dense that’s going to be your main problem went out the Strahl it’s going to turn into a thick wet dense block that suffocates the pan culture mow your grass dry the trimmings and use that

what i understood from your tek the best way to make pan grow on substrate is to make it "Fluffy" the biggest problem in my country is all straw from grains is send to craft making industry(hats, basket etc) i was about get a straw hat and grind it, till i realize, straw went under treatment for fungicide.
i will try my luck with dry grass, and update
thank you mate, i am moving to pan's and this will be my first grow and i am still gathering stuff
i am happy the cow poop i purchase you gave a green signal on that lol things that make growers happy, good aged cow poop

Jake I have a question concerning the JOC Pano system.
Is a newer humidifier from that same manufacturer an improvement or does it lack some set and forget feature? This one specifically: https://www.amazon.com/Air-Innovations-MH-901D-Ultrasonic-Humidifier/dp/B077MLKCYW?ref=dp_atch_dss_sdp_ce&smid=A1DXN92KCKEQV4_3
How did you set up your hydro fogger tote?
And where on the JOC pano system do you attach the bathroom fan? Is one rated for 100cfm going to do the trick?
Can I use vinyl tubes to transport the fog or do they need to be dryer tubes?
Thank you for this incredible tek!

Yes the original humidifier like the one you linked above created hotspots in the tent it simply does not put out enough fog to run the whole tent properly now I was able to limp it all along and pull up trays however I had to have them in certain spots in the tent and I still had to do some hand maintenance to keep them fully happy the fog system I use now is a 12 head house of Hydro fogger a desk built into a tote that Is strong enough to overload the tent with fog in a matter of seconds eliminating the problem of hotspots you do however need to readjust your time cycle and prepare to deal with a little bit of water before you get it dialed in make sure you have that tray underneath your tent that I recommend or something similar

That ½ cup gypsum, that's for how much sub? I'm making 4 quarts and want to make sure I'm not throwing in too much. ½ cup of gypsum is looking like 15.5% of the total weight before hydration.

Thanks for this write up Jake. I’m having a problem where my pins bruise and abort, and the trays seem to be accumulating way too much water. I have my fan on a timer and the fogger set to work with my humidity values/differentials on my inkbird humidity controller. Should I just scrap having the fogger set up to that and put it on a timer with the fan? It’s very hard to get the timing between the two lined up.

12 heads? I've got one head on mine and I'm sitting around 80% with an empty tent and a quart of perilite on each shelf and the bottom loaded with perilite. Should I invest in more heads? Are you doing full evacuations or a constant slow fae exchange? I'm using a slow fae.

Does it matter what kind of bathroom exhaust fan you use. I just picked up a NuTone that is 90CFM. ARN90C

thank you!
any advices to understanding good cycles? I rid off marthas and build small tent with exhaust fan and ton of moister. So it's new setup for me and I have to figure out how exactly balance cycles very soon.
I rely on your notes about equal time for hydrating\dehydrating and rest perido, but maybe you can add something more specific

He told me over on the pan thread that he uses 3 mins on and 7 mins off on both timers, with the humidifier timer triggering first and then the exhaust timer triggering 90 seconds later so there is 90 seconds where both are running at the same time.

Thanks to JOC for all the details and support. I've finished my tent. I've used his original and his new updates.
The greenhouse is from Amazon.
The pan it sits in is from the hardware store and is a washing machine pan. It is sitting on top of a large tote and I shimmed up the back of the tote with a piece of wood about 1/2" thick so that the pan tilts forward just a bit so the water that builds up on the pan all collects along the front edge.
I drilled a hole in the pan and put a small vinyl hose in there which allows the water to drain back into the humidifier reservoir.
Humidifier is a 3 disc House of Hydro fogger. I got the adjustment knob for it but just run it at full bore. It sits in the smaller tote and there is a Hose of Hydro computer fan that pressurizes the tote and causes the humid air to blow into the greenhouse. The computer fan is on a speed controller.
I have a quiet bathroom vent fan zip tied to the bottom rack of the greenhouse with the fan opening facing downward. It exhausts out the back of the greenhouse through a hole I cut, then is ducted to the outdoors.
I don't have an intake vent or filter on the greenhouse - instead, when the bathroom fan kicks on, it pulls air through the fan hole on the top of the humidifier tub. Since the hose from that tub goes to the top of the greenhouse, it's working well to bring in air from the top and move it downward, and then out. This means I don't have a filter to prevent airborne contams, but unless you run a filter on your humidifier, you are sucking in unfiltered air during the fogging cycle.
I use digital cycle timers per JOC's tek, and am not bothering to use my hygrometer controller. Room is set for a constant 78 degrees using a heater and 40% RH using a humidifier in the room. I haven't had the chance to dial it in yet because I'm still working on getting G2B right.
The setup:

After 3 mins of fogging:

Drain:

The computer fan on top of the fogger tub blows in when the fogger is turns on, correct? Does it matter if the fan is mounted on the side or top? edit: I have a slew of computer fans, does it matter what fan speed it is
