Thought I might aswell post this here aswell since you are the one who turned me on to led strips. Love the fact that I now have everything inside the greenhouse.
Using some app on my phone to test to lux I get an average of 500 lux all over the greenhouse. Jake you have any info about how strong the light needs to be? I'm more worried about my gourmets tho so might not be best place for this question. Sorry skip it..:bow2:
Thank you Jake

So I live in a tiny apartment and a grow gourmets from time to time. Problem is I done the mistake of missing when the mature and come home to a apartment full of spores which the wife hates and I know those amounts of spores or dangerous.

Could you help me figure out a idea to catch the spores somehow? I had thr idea before of have a fan blow out air through a filter but the filter always got so wet because of the air going out being so moist.

Maybe I'm missing a simple solution.  Oh and I do not have the possibly to pipe the air outside, otherwise that would be an optional.

Spores are messy, there's no way around it other than being there before they dump spores all over your grow area. The only thing that helps is growing them in a somewhat sealed environment like a Martha or separate fruiting room (which you should be doing already). If you leave them long enough your room or Martha will be absolutely coated, just time your grow better.

The Same thing is true with cubes, you cant walk away from them and expect them not to cover your tub in a mess of spores.

Volume,

Also just throw a Filter on your exhaust and change it every few weeks.

Hey I havent been on here in a couple weeks but I just saw your post about the ketchup cups you got that you can do no pour agar with. What brand is that and are they on Amazon? I just got some more but I want to try those mostly because I am not sure if the ones I use now are air tight. The no pour thing is pretty awesome too.

Im not sure if the ones I have you could do that I think its a 3 on the bottom but they seem pretty thin to put in the pressure cooker they will wilt a little if I pour the agar too hot so I dont think they would hold up in the PC.

As far as the question about the bag in the slow cooker Im not really the one to ask as I am just learning about pans myself but it looks like JOK answered which actually helped me for my next run because I just did mine in the slow cooler with no bags my first try. The second one I did I pressure cooked everything as JOK recommended for summer if your having trouble with contams.

I tried pressure cooking everything but I am mostly having trouble with how much water to add. I pour a little in and then check it but Im not exactly sure what I am looking for. When I squeezed it hard some water came out. It did seem a little dry after PCing everything but I think its better than my first try which came out too wet.

Is there a ballpark figure of the amount of water to use? I heard 60-63% of total weight but I think that was with the straw pre soaked. And on top of that I did the calculations and it seemed like everything was good before I even got close to 60% I think I used like maybe 35-45%. Maybe I need to add a little more to include how much the straw will soak up in the PC?

Also if it matter I am using dehydrated horse manure.

I don’t know about the catch-up cups I always order dishes then pour em myself.
If I make up a 5 gallon bucket of bulk I need to add about a gallon of water to it when you pick up a handful and squeeze that you want to see about 5 to 11 drops come out of your hand more than that it’s probably too wet it’s also important that it’s nice and fluffy with straw if you have a dense wet bag of slop it will not work

OK thanks for the fast reply! I think mine had about 5 or 6 drop come out when I squeezed it hard.

What makes it more fluffy? I got some pre cut straw this time but some of the pieces were still like and inch to two inches some were smaller. After pcing in the jars it did seem kind of dense I had to kind of fluff it up myself after. Maybe more straw next time?

Yes more straw, straw pellets cut in help a lot with this but they are kinda pricy, But you can achieve a perfect substrate using just chop straw but yeah cut more straw in next time you don’t want to see any sitting water in your bag

The good news is the cakes I just made up are showing colonization on the top. Im hoping its spreading to the actual bulk sub and its not just grains here and there that are colonizing. Its only been a few days so I will see soon.

I did mix it all together like you recommended instead of doing layers so that should help too. I also checked about those PHVs and he said they will be on the site soon.

I did the tek by weight instead of volume and two days after spawn it looks like this in one of the trays.

What do you think?

Looks about right for two days to me. With mine I give it another day or two and then case it, when I case them right at full surface colonization they seem to overrun the casing.

Okay, so you let them fully colonize the surface and then give them another two days? Is hat correct understood?

BTW. Should the casing be pasteurized some days before using like the substrate or can I use it when it has cooled?

Idk how Jake does it with this method, but I had problems with the casing getting grown in.

I’ve always used the casing as soon as it cooled off.

What do  people use as the circut timer? I can't find anything anywhere that's usefull.
Only daytimers with 10 different interval programs but no repeat timers.

I have these
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07LBBYPGG/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_track_package_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cheap but pretty complicated. Save the manual for sure whatever you end up with.
