:justno:
You can have lots of invitro pins in environments with minimal to zero evaporation.
When a substrate is fully colonized it pins, thus full colonization is the pinning trigger.
Growers fan because they haven't grown enough to understand that it's pointless.

Why do you want him to mist? You just said it was pointless 🤨

It's suppose to say 'fanning' is pointless (which it is) , I edited the post :super:

I believe most people don’t fan anymore. That’s outdated info. I get good flushes with zero fanning and only misting if the top of the substrate isn’t glistening anymore. Your dub tub should get plenty of air to cause evaporation on it’s own.

Well, this is one of my projects, and I will not use hay anymore, just tryed too see if they really like hay and yes they do ... it’s just that half of them look like that and half look healthy, might be some kind of bacteria, I don’t really know, the lid of the box it’s just pointless, eighter  way you would put it it will leave to much air inside and dry really fast the substrate plus that it is same colour with the box
Here are some more pictures from today

Holy fuck that looks dry as balls.

Don't use hay. Shit is too hot and can contain seeds. Straw is what you want to use.

Whoever said to not mist until flush 2 is wrong, or at least your understanding of it is wrong. What it's supposed to say is normally most substrates don't need a mist until flush 2. If you have a dry substrate, you need to mist it. If you think every grow is gunna follow the same steps and be the exact same, you're sadly mistaken. It's your job as the grower to watch each and every substrate, and cater to its needs. Some substrates will be too dry, and will need a daily misting. Some substrates will be too wet, and need to be opened up some to allow for more evaporation. As you grow more, you will get used to things more.

Also, those mushrooms are clearly done growing. I'd pick them if I were you.

Check the "Making Shoeboxes" thread. Nobody is fanning and the majority of people aren't misting before they see first pins.

I want my shit to breathe once in a while. I also want to take care of my substrate! Everyone makes their substrate with different water ratios so to say that you dont have to mist or anything does more harm than good. Look what happened to this guy! Is it really that difficult to open the lid once in a while? Just seems like laziness to me. How about putting a little pride in your work.

It’s not about pride, mushrooms breath on there own, do you need to be fanned to breath?

No one is saying you don't need to mist were saying that fanning is pointless
and that it does nothing in terms of evaporation or oxygen supply.
How often you will have to mist during the first flush depends on a few factors there's no right and wrong.
But fanning is outdated technique that serves no real purpose, I used to fan when I started out most of us did at some point :super:

Putting pride in your work means that you should focus on things that matter. I would be very proud of my work if I reached some canopies that people have in the shoeboxes thread without any fanning or misting.

What about the canopies where there is misting?

I misted these guys every day.

People need to stop fuckin flaunting egos over whether you should mist or not. The answer is fuckin simple as balls..

How it shouldn't look: (finding the Goldilocks zone)

These are slightly on the dry side. They need to be MISTED DIRECTLY very briefly. Like a couple passes, a foot or 2 high.

These are too wet, and going bacterial. Notice the pools of water and thick rubbery mycelium? They need to be cut back on misting for a bit until at a reasonable surface hydration, and increased FAE.

How it should look. Beads of moisture and/or glistening:

Always use a flashlight to look for glistening!

Uncased substrate:
        - PussyFart
(just after a misting)

Cased bulk substrate:

Cakes rolled in verm:
- stareatclouds

YOU MIST DIRECTLY BASED ON WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE, AND CATER TO THEIR NEEDS, NOT A SET SCHEDULE OF 2-6 TIMES A DAY!

I agree that fanning is pointless. I haven't fanned since 2013. Misting on the other hand is not pointless. It is meant to keep the surface happy. You get a canopy by having a happy surface. To me, it's more impressive when someone can pull off a happy surface by deciding if they should mist when the time comes.

No but depending on your set up opening the container once in a while and allowing it to air out a little bit might help. I've seen a million different monotub setups. I doubt everyone on here is getting perfect fresh air exchange.

Re: Why are this mushrooms so fuzzy ? [Re: Shenmue] * 1

But FAE is constant, no matter how high or low the FAE rate is, it's always happening.
Opening the lid a few times a day doesn't create evaporation and doesn't supply with oxygen, those things are already happening constantly.

Also no one said that misting was pointless, were talking about fanning being outdated.
How much you mist will depend on several factors so there's no answer to how often  a grower will need to mist.
Find out what works for you!

Its dry, it needs a mist. That's what all the bruising is from. Fanning is only useful when doing cakes (if even that) not shoeboxes and mono tubs. They need constant FAE fanning does not provide that, that's why people say fanning is useless in tubs. Shoeboxes SHOULD provide enough FAE just from the way they are designed. And that's why we put holes in mono tubs or flip the lid in unmodified tubs...

Hiya, I’ve misted the substrate and I will cut the grown mushrooms tomorrow, now it’s glistening.
After misting the sub the white stuff from the tops of the mushrooms disappeared and they started to look again like normal ones, this is just a side project, my other projects don’t need misting, I only dunk the sub for 6 hours and that is blessed for a full flush, I just wanted to try this hay( no seeeds) because I used it in combination with horse poo and I had great results, on the other hand this hay has so many pins by itself , i ll post more pictures soon.  yea, the struggle is real when I cut it and that s the main reason why I won’t use it anymore, I also found out that horse poo rocks!!! Best canopy and I m getting almost 500g fresh mush per flush from the same type of box, thank you and I ll listen to your advices , it’s just that there are so many opinions and I like to read first , then apply them learnings,
I guess we all fail till we rock
Thanks guys !

I'll probably still do it though lol, for now. Once I have a isolation going on I'll test the fanning thing. I'll do 2 shoeboxes with fanning and 2 without. A fun little science experiment lol...

god forbid anyone discourages a noob but do you know how many of us DO NOT fan? and run clones, ms, isolations ect..

people have already done the testing for you. proofs in the pictures and everyone here saying 'fanning is pointless'
