Trichocereus cuttings mold from shipping. * 1
    #25923697 - 04/08/19 06:28 PM (4 years, 11 months ago)

hello guys im new to all of this but i got 10 cacti cuttings today all around 13" in height and anywhere from 2" to 5" diam.

few of them show signs of mold -- grayish and orange.

none of the calluses or spots on them are soft, everything is firm.

should i spray a hydro peroxide solution? rubbing alcohol?
or cut and retry the drying process without the shipping from Cali to Colo?

i was hoping to avoid the re-cutting / callus process
im ready for roots already haha

thanks for the advice in advance, sorry if this is a stupid question

If nothing is soft I would worry about it too much

Put them in front of a fan for a couple days and wait a few weeks before planting. If any do in fact need to be cut again it’s always better to take an extra cm or two to ensure clean tissue. Coat the cut end in sulfur powder and coat it good then put in front of fan or any dry airy place. Some use cinnamon on cut ends. I’ve always had good results with horticultural sulfur.

Nice cuttings. Love the pic there

Personally i would re-cut the ends then dry them out naturally, just for confidence that it was clean.

I had one arrive that way a year or two ago it wasn’t soft or squishy so I set it ontop of pumice it rooted fine never continued to mold

Personally I wouldn’t cut most of those again but it’s oretty hard to tell from the looks how squishy they might be so I cannot confidently say that.

The one in the bottom pic far left seems like that spot may be soft?? Then the other three on the right showing blackening also may need treatment but it’s hard to say without being able to very gently feel the flesh myself

The other six plants seem fine but again can’t say that confidently cause I can’t see them up close and feel them

Whatever you decide to do keep a close close eye on them the next week or so
