Bought a new car this weekend. Everyone acts differently around me now. * 3
    #25922700 - 04/08/19 09:30 AM (4 years, 11 months ago)

My entire town. Every single last person living here now won't pass me on the highway.
They stop at stop signs for a good 5-10 seconds before moving in front of me.
As soon as I pull out of my house, everyone around me taps on their brakes and goes under the speed limit.

What in the actual fuck is going on?

For those of you that are interested in cars, I picked this 2010 CVPI P7B with 100k on the clock for $1800. Just about stole it at that price. Mint inside and out. Marauder suspension and intake (OEM). Handles like a sport's car compared to other Panther Platform Fords I've had in the past.

I have been looking at buying one of these for over a decade now, when they were still P71's. Mine was the second to last year they ever made these CVPI's, and only 20,000 were produced.

I'm quite infatuated with it as it's a blast to drive through these mountain roads. And it seems to only be going up in value every year for the last 5.

I've thought about that a lot. I actually picked it up on Friday and headed straight to the courthouse to take care of something. (It's attached to the police staton).

And it was interesting. The cops driving towards me, would wave initially, and then when they got close enough to see my face, they looked rather disappointed. lol

Then on Saturday I was out at a block party, and every single cop in that little ski town followed me around. It's just not a car you ever see here. That's why it was so cheap, even though it's worth about $5500, it's almost impossible to get around in the Winter with it.

So, yea, I think it could go both ways. Cops in towns that still use these as police vehicles probably will fuck with me less from now on, but towns that use something else as their squad cars, will most likely pay extra attention to me.

Thankfully the town that I actually live in, the closest police officer is about an hour away. That's why all my neighbors were freaking out a bit. We're not used to seeing cop cars around here.

You will get so annoyed by the fact the everybody will go exactly the speed limit in front of you.

Yea, it's already annoying.
I do however like the feeling of commanding the entire road at times. Especially not in my own town.
But I'm considering doing something to it that would clearly mark it a civilian car.
I don't know what yet... Any ideas?

Western Slope is so nice.  If it is white maybe consider a different color and possibly? Some Grateful Dead bumper stickers or something similar might help!

That's my favorite part!

I love having it pointed at the mountains next to me while driving at night. I'm sorry man, but that's staying on.

No stickers. I want to keep it clean, but the only thing I can thing of is a skinny, 1 inch white stripe running the length of the car. There are small, red "out of service" banners you can put on your CVPI, but they look ugly AF>

And Western Slope...Home. The most beautiful place in the world. (I'm down valley from Telluride)
And hope to be here for the rest of my life.

The first word that came to mind when I clicked the link was "wanker!"
And that word isn't part of my vocabulary ever.

Not derail my own thread,
But how have you been, Pat?
I think it's been a couple months since I've talked to you around these parts.
Is life treating you well?

I had the same thing when I started wearing a HiViz helmet on my motorcycle

People see the yellow helmet and automatically assume you are a cop

Car looks comfy. You say it does well on mountain roads? In what aspects? Seems more like a cruiser to me

Maybe a stripe on the hood so people in front can see it and relax?  Spent a month traveling from Paonia to Aspen and fell in love with the whole place.

I've owned 3 cars over the years with the same chassis. But using the civilian floaty suspension set up in those cars.

Since this one is a former police car, and it's a 2010, it was fitted with the suspension and just about the entire front end of the Mercury Marauder (The racing version of the Crown Vic). Rear anti-sway bars, and has about a dozen extra reinforced weld points on the frame to which makes it really rigid, but it was done this way to safely execute PIT maneuvers.

So, yea, she's a big girl. But she's really nimble. Almost no body roll on extremely tight turns.
It was a surprise to me as well.
