Shitty neighborhood LF input on best security device options 1

Been living here for a year now, shitty neighborhood. Lots of little stuff ends up missing. A bike I understand, tools ect. Recently someone stole a jack (which was garbage and going to recycle) and stole our fiskar tree trimmers. The big pair of scissors about two foot long with clipper blade at the end. We use it for trimming random plants back ect this was the first time I was surprised they took what they did lol. I’m tired of having people in my yard and not knowing
Once I caught a guy getting water outta my faucet heard the water running went outside busted him trying to run off as he screwed his water jug container lid on sloppily lol. He said “ just was thirsty man”. I told him there is plenty of places to get free water it makes us worry.
I at least need a trip wire censor of some sort that alarms me when people go past that point. I’d rather not pay for WiFi to have security cameras ect. Maybe in time.. I’m looking for something affordable atm. Someone is usually home so trip wire alarm would be good when ever it goes off someone can run outside and prevent them from digging through our stuff sometimes they throw stuff around and we have to pick stuff up and put it back. Some addicts have no respect at all
So what type of security devices are you guys using? Build your own? Looking for all types of input. A shed is a good idea but not quite good enough. A fence is a little more than I wanna do don’t own this house..
Maybe some type of security light that has a daytime sensor for movement as well as night and and alarm option?
I know there’s so many diff types of device figured getting everyone’s input would produce several good options

Hey Raven, sorry to hear about that... I've been dealing with similar stuff recently too. I have some tweaker neighbors. I'm pretty sure they're selling who knows what out of the place considering people are coming and going constantly most days of the week. Sometimes there's still a lot of foot traffic up until 4am in the morning. The actual neighbor is super nice and has helped us jump our car and shit a lot so I haven't really given a shit because most of the people coming/going have been respectful to a certain extent (aside from just throwing trash and it blowing into our yard.) Recently though I put my pump for my steam sterilizer in the back yard and noticed when I was cleaning stuff up that someone took it... Who the fuck takes a hot tub pump that isn't worth more than $15 wtf... really pissed me off and I'm tired of people hanging out in our back yard that aren't welcome... And we do have a fence so the only way they can get in is from the side of the house that the tweaker neighbor lives on. I try to mind my own business so I expect them to mind theirs and stay off my fucking lawn lol. Otherwise, we're going to have problems.
I'm curious as to what people have to say about this. I'm about to sit outside in the bushes and ambush them lol. (I have A LOT of free time!)

I feel you!! Trying to decide what’s best cause I’m getting pretty upset and all over my scissors haha the bike kinda stung too tho
I don’t want to get too drastic over petty shit but what if it turns into not petty cause the whole you never aspect
A dog fits this description well.. or just making myself known each and every time someone enters our yard
I thought about paintball gun but if I was a tweaker and got blasted with a bunch of welts I’d be pissed and maybe want revenge i don’t wanna risk my plants safety they live outside and cannot protect themselves :/
I definitely plan to move and I realize it will never change but for now..?? I know some people here will have some ideas or systems they own to share?

Harbor freight man if there's one by you. They have motion alarms, motion lights, and camera systems. Might want to fence in your yard if at all possible so you can lock it up. Other than that don't leave anything outside if you do lock it up and have motion alarms and lights near those items so you'll know if they're going for them. They should have a lock for your hose bib outside as well.

I live in a sort of rough town, lots of theft and ice heads.
We have a at-home wireless Security Camera system. It uses its own "WIFI" via the DVR device and the cameras themselves, so u don't need internet. It cost about a hundred dollars I think.
It seems to be working well. I haven't seen any people really try steal anything. Good thing about Meth is it makes you paranoid when you see cameras.
Also, posting some "This area is under video surveillance." signs as well would help.
If you wanna go real cheap, maybe some thick fishline with tiny bells on them around your house property

ha, like the sign idea, I wonder if a simple "trespassers will be shot" sign would have any effect

That's pretty extreme, I wouldn't recommend that direction.....

Thanks for the harbor freight tip!
I agree that a sign can have a great effect, I also considered that the people will be very paranoid and pretty much anyone who is sneaking around doesn’t wanna get caught. Most people run when confronted if they’re sneaking around the paranoia stems from fear of getting caught after all
Most people tho, some people don’t scare. Those are the ones you don’t fuck with. I know people like that and anyone confronts those people violently and you can bet your ass they’ll be ready for some violence themselves in a heart beat.
And that’s why I don’t want to be too extreme cause I’m not wanting to start more problems of some petty problems.
I just don’t want the neighborhood tweeks to continue thinking they can enter my yard freely and have no one know that it’s going on. I want to basically start going out literally every single time it happens and just make a presence. I imagine they’ll get tired of it quicker than I will lol

So how does the dvr work exactly? The cameras are wireless? When you are not home do you always get notifications? Is the service fast and not “spotty” at all?
I’ve been told with WiFi camera systems you want to get 4g not 3g internet service so that your internet isn’t prone to interruptions or spotty service. If your internet is experiencing spotty service during a time when your camera system is sending an alert/notification then you may be receive the alert/notification. This is not my personal experience however so I’m not sure exactly HOW MUCh of an issue it can be...
Thanks for the input everyone I really appreciate it
I just was thinking a guard monkey would be pretty sweet, as long as he was happy haha. Bet he could peg a tweeker in head w a pebble from the roof.

Motion sensors with camera recording, you could adjust the settings to start only recording when motion is detected and it could also turn the lights on just to let the thieves know they're being watched. If you want to go all out you could also add second layer of alarms, so if lights and camera aren't concerning enough and they still proceed, an actual loud alarms turns on.
The downside is that people may start fucking around with the sensors but I'm fairly certain this would make you a rather shitty target to go for.

The DVR system is a closed, standalone system. Its not hooked up to your Internet. But there are models which u can hook them up to your WiFi or Internet WLAN.
Its not spotty as long as you set up the distances between the DVR box and the cameras right. U put the DVR box in a central location between the wireless cameras for best performance. Then if u think someone is messing around on your property, u go to the DVR box and review the footage from your cameras.

Most overwrite at a certain point. For example, after 5 days worth of recording, it starts overwriting the oldest video and the cycle continues. Some have drives like computers so u can upgrade to bigger drives.

Growing up in detroit you have to deal with that shit non stop.. lock up EVERYTHING.. even if you are going in the house for 20 minutes put your shit away.. fuckers will run off with anything..
Get motion sensor lights for at night.. and cameras if you have the spare cash. cameras usually don't help after the fact but are a good deterrent if it's obvious you have them..
