Question on syringes

Hey my wonderful mushroom people. I read one post the other day, and can't find again. They were saying that you could inoculate a 5% dextrose IV bag and turn a couple CC's into much more. It sounds great and easy in theory. What is everyone's opinion on this?

Spore syringes/prints are not axenic. Making LC amplifies everything contamination included.

Weird, Ive been using MS -> LC for the vast majority of my grows over the last 20 years and rarely have issues. :shrug:

I probably just jinxed myself considering Ill be knocking up some jars tonight..:derp:

Lucky, Ive only been doing this for a couple years and got my first multi species syringe this fall.  It was a cube/pink goo blend.

It's pretty simple in my mind. Spore syringes are absolutely a gamble unless you made them yourself and only take spores from in vitro grows with very very good sterile awareness and technique. Almost no one does this.

When banking on the "trusted vendors" sterile practice you are simply tossing the dice. The last trusted vendor syringes i ordered turned out like this.



Shoot something like that into an LC and see what happens. You'll grow nothing but evil.... i promise. This does not mean that spores to LC can't work, it's just a gamble.

In my opinion, clean agar is THE ONLY way one should proceed to liquid. Done correctly you can produce clean LC 100% of the time and agar is worth learning for a whole host of other reasons any way.

Heres what I got.  from a sponsored vendor.

All plates from this syringe had this.  This photo is maybe the worst one out of 10.  i did three transfers from the best looking plate until I they looked clean, knocked that to grain and 4 out of 7 of those jars got pink spots.  So, I recommend putting spores to agar first.

I just read up on Agar tek. I never would have thought I understand or how simple it is, it sounds simple enough anyway. IS IT??????? I plan on going that route. seems reasonably inexpensive, and a great way of being free of unsure spores. tell me how it really is guys, please and thank you.

Practice makes pretty good.  It’s super simple and opens up a whole lot of stuff you can do.  I saw I either had to keep buying spore syringes or I could make my own prints and inoculate agar, so I started using it right from the start, and I’m not a smart person, if I can do it anyone can.

Agar is.... awkward the first few times (specially in a SAB) but really really really easy after a couple practice rounds. I like to  recommend that noobs order enough plates to sacrifice a sleeve of ten and practice pouring in the Sab with water. Most folks mess their first pouring attempt up just because it's an odd movement that your brain has know practice with. 5 test pours and i say anyone with a proper understanding of sterile tek could pour perfectly clean plates.

Also, If you don't want to jump straight into pouring you could search pastywhytes easy agar no pour tek. I forget the exact wording. Just a second....

here it is.

I don't like but if i was still pouring in a little sab i might be doing them.

you guys have me more excited than I already was. now I just gotta wait for my brf cakes and grain bags to inoculate. GT and B+. myy cakes are doing good but my grain shows nothing so far, its only been 4 days, I know theres a lot of variables but when you rye bags start showing something???
