College Football playoffs, a discussion

So after living through the dreaded BCS, my prayers were answered by the birth of the college football playoffs. No matter what you think of the current setup, I think it i dd's a definite step in the right direction as far as crowning the correct, sole, national champs. With that being said, it is obviously not the perfect system. There are a few things that I think would help the current system(no particular order): A) we need standardized schedules: everyone should have x amount of conference games, x amount of out of conference games, and a conference championship to be eligible to make the 4 team playoffs A.01) if you dont want it to be kept to only the major conferences I feel they would need to expand the feild for the playoffs. Otherwise it's just to difficult to compare teams and make a correct decision(i.e. ND making it while sitting at home watching conference championship week where teams like Ohio state, actual conference champions, get left out in the cold.) This would make the committee decide on conference strength vs conference strength instead of team vs team, it would also significantly decrease the amount of major decisions the committee would ha e to make(i.e. bama vs uga, where one team is contender but didnt make their conference championship) B) I think fan voting should play a part. Of course there would be a lot of bias but I feel like it would overall even out to what people really want to watch. I think this should somehow be implemented. Maybe the fans make up a couple seats on the committee or something like that. C) make it mathematical like pro sports and have a couple wildcards/at large teams from either independents or smaller conferences. This would help the little schools recruit, making the sport better having more contenders, and giving more NFL prospects TV time sa nd exposure. This one kind of ties in with the standardized schedules. D) expand the playoffs. This would be ideal, for us the fans at least. Plus the players would get more used to a longer, NFL like season. This opens up all new cans or worms like how big do we expand to, how long do we want the seasons to be, is this too much strain on these young men who have a full time job as a student(at least they are supposed to)?
I'll add more to this when I think of things, at work right now and keep getting distracted 🙄 haha. College football is by far my favorite sport and I just want to see it be the best it can possibly be. Any and all input on the topic is welcome. :passthemic:

I think schedule reform is more important than expanding the playoffs. No more cupcakes and no more one and dones. Out of conference games should be largely chosen by random draw and both teams need to play on the road.
I love Nebraska’s tradition but except for very rare cases they cupcake and never travel out of conference
Florida is also an egregious offender never playing out of state and out of conference
Old rivalries should be respected. Like Florida FSU is a non-conference game they handle correctly.
Utah should play BYU and Utah State every year and then one more non conference game chosen at random. If it’s Alabama they take one trip to Tuscaloosa and the next year Bama plays in RES.
I have no beef with ND or BYU’s scheduling but they have to play equally on the road.
I’m completely opposed to the fans having a say.
As for the playoffs I say the power 5 champions and three at large bids based on a computer model. With proper schedule reform (no more Charleston Southern bullshit) a computer algorithm could square it up as fair as possible. No more bullshit “eyeball tests”

I agree with almost all of that man. Schedule reform would solve like 99% of the issues. The fan vote isnt my favorite idea but I think it would be interesting. I think an expanded playoff would be great for the sport but I do agree that schedule reform need to happen first.
