Is this ganoderma applanatum?

Habitat:
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.

Dead tree stump: possibly oak? East coast 2700 feet, early spring 30-60° F night/day swings

Gills:
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.

White polypore

Stem:
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.

Woody,bracket fungus

Cap:
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

4-7" white shelf

Spore print color:
Very important!

Attempting to print currently

Bruising:
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

None

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

Smells like button mushrooms

Compare with Daedaleopsis ambigua.

Trametes elegans is a synonym.

I don't think we get Trametes elegans in the USA.    The two common ones which look like this are Trametes lactinea with round pores and Trametes aesculi with angular/maze pores.    There might also be some Trametes gibbosa around, but it's not as common.  This is probably Trametes aesculi.

It's not reishi... trametes; any relation to turkey tail? Like, can I use it for anything?

It is a Trametes species,  as far as medicine,  I can't say,  everything I have read seems to be anecdotal at best, no controlled studies have been performed on medicinal properties to my knowledge.

The ones on that page are actually Trametes aesculi.

Wouldn't hurt to try.  Defining success would be very difficult though.

Trametes aesculi, awesome... thx bud! Lol, I hear ya there... think I'll culture it and inoculate a stump on the edge of the property... just cuz :shrug:

You can also use the fresh fruiting body as plug spawn.

i laughed way to hard picturing people walking by wondering why some mad person is hitting trees with a hatchet and shoving mushrooms in them 😂. Anyways thats something ive never thought about doing! Good to know i usually only have a multitool or knife with me when hunting

I recommend a hatchet or multitool because it's quieter than the shotgun method.
