Earth brand, Mushroom compost found at Lowe's
    #2590607 - 04/22/04 12:32 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

When I was at Lowe's yesterday getting some peat moss, somthing caught my eye. It was mushroom compost. The brand is Earth somthing. Im not sure the exact brand name because I forgot but its earth somthing. Anyway it was a 40 pound bag for like $3. It says it is all organic and contains beneficial microorganisms. Has anyone else heard of this stuff. Will I still need to pasteurize the compost?

that is mushrooms substrate that has already been used on commercial mushroom farms. Its not good enough anymore to grow more mushrooms. It is sold as a compost for gardens and what not, where it works very well, but not to grow cubes.

Butternut squash are softer than acorn or other types of squash, which makes them easier to cut and prepare.

Ahh... that's good to know! I saw the same thing at Home Depot yesterday, but they were out of it, so I didn't get it.

Instead I picked up steer manure. I'm planning on mixing this with straw at a 1 part manure to 2 or 3 parts straw ratio. Any troubles you can foresee? Would I be better off with just straw?

its good for adding to your garden, but that's about it.
mycelium and mushroom mass is used to promote growth in gardens.
