The EU is banning single use plastic items. * 4

Finally some progress somewhere.

TheEU is banning straws, plastics forks, plastic cups, etc.  Any plastic meant to be used only once and then thrown away.

The reason of course is to help the environment and limit plastic wastic as much as possible.  I believe only 15% of these items get recycled and the rest end up in theocean or elsewhere in nature.

Do you guys think this will happen soon over here?

Plastics manufacturers and chemical companies have way too much sway in the US for anything to change. Maybe Canada eventually though.

In California they banned plastic grocery bags and styrofoam to-go containers. A lot of places give you a paper straws now too.

I think it will happen slowly.

Good. I'm glad there are changes being made that are moving the west away from the frivolous throw away culture that it's created. I don't care much for a lot of what government does, especially the EU, but I can get down with this. Hopefully mankind follows suit.
Straws are stupid anyway.

The paper straws are kind of bullshit. Was not impressed. Got all soaked and shitty real fast. Now I've seen these sugar or cellulose based straws that are pretty legit. Indistinguishable from plastic straws and they will biodegrade

Most of my weed comes in glass jars. Once in a while it comes in a plastic container, but those are much easier to recycle then plastic bags.

Plastic is a great invention and without it the world would be in trouble. The problem is that it needs to be recycled and that isn't always easy. I end up throwing a lot of plastic and cardboard away because my city won't give me an extra recycling bin. Instead they would rather fill their landfills to capacity.

China stopped taking Australian recycling without any warning. It immediately started piling up, and nobody knew what to do with it.

The government's trying to sweep it under the rug, but just about all of it is going into landfill to this day.

I am under the impression that recycling is a landfill issue much more than environmental one. For 8 months I have been living in a small town almost an hour away from Chicago and there is no recycling whatsoever. Towns recycle when the landfill costs are prohibitive, which is when you have to truck the garbage too many miles. If you get farther from the city nobody recycles because there are places to dump it nearby.

I'm all for a ban on single use plastics. I saw a huge truckload of recycled plastic garbage bags going down the Eisenhower expressway. There were about a thousand bags per second flying out of the truck. There's a pile of plastic in the Gulf of Mexico that stretches for miles.

Whoever said getting rid of all plastics, that's not going to happen. Some things are best made from plastics all things considered, such as my new right eye.
