...you’re kidding, right?  Deep house has been around for a long time.  I used to occasionally hear it at raves in the 90s, there were dj’s who spun it exclusively.  I remember going to an all deep house club night back in 2002 or so.  It’s not new.

I skimmed through the mix you posted.  It seems to be deep house more or less like I remember it, just done with more modern sounding production techniques.  Not bad at all, but personally I prefer stuff without vocals.  Or at least with substantially fewer vocal tunes.  Glad you found something you like for summer though!  I do that too- try to find nice summery music when the weather starts getting warmer.

Man, it’s tough to keep up with nomenclature in dance music.  I’ve been listening to it for over 25 years and mostly don’t even bother with it aside from knowing what to call what I’m looking for.  I swear though, someone does one little thing different with a tune, and then they act like they created a new genre.  I remember when dubstep was starting to get real big back around 2010, and the genre just balkanized into all these little micro-niches that were mostly just variants of the same thing.  Tune got some gunshots/cocking sounds?  They’d call it handgunstep.  It’s crazy trying to keep up with what folks call their sounds.  I just tell people I listen to electronic music and let their imaginations fill in whatever they think that means, lol.

That said, I can understand the “tropical house” term.  Deep house commonly has a beach party/island life vibe to it.

Lmao I have that record!  I also have ‘Yo Family’ by DJ Assault: “Yo mama, yo daddy, yo sista’s a ho”.  Great stuff.  I used to LOVE ghetto tech.  Some of it is just ridiculous and hilarious, completely over the top, but there’s a whole chunk of it that’s actually seriously well made music.  One of the best in the genre, Disco D, made some great tunes and mixes.

What are some good tracks? Curious since Aphex Twin (RDJ) is a fan of old-school acid house... might even say it's an early influence.

Hey, I know you asked the other guy, but if you want some incredible acid house/acid breaks from 1997, here’s one of my favorite mixes in the genre.  I had this one on cassette over 20 years ago, wish I still had it.  The flip side was a dnb mix by Dieselboy.
