Bear Hunting
    #25899901 - 03/27/19 10:57 AM (4 years, 9 months ago)

In PA, bear hunting is like a week and a half in November. In ME, where I am headed, the bag limit is 2, and the bear season is from August to November I believe.

Hunting in PA was a joke -- especially going solo. There was only a week and most people drive them out with flanks and teams.

I will have my own land this time. I want to bait them in, which is legal in ME.

Apparently they have moose up there too.

Hunting is great meditation, it’s like a reset and break from the rat race to sit and watch wait and listen, animales are amazing and there is nothing like knowing them, i can’t think of a better way to appreciate them.  And if your lucky you get good food out of it.

killing an animal is appreciating it? i dont think so. and yes i understand hunting for sustenance. im strongly against hunting for sport/pleasure.

Want to try both. I have a decent crossbow if that is allowed.

how would you feel if your family members, friends or lovers were hunted for meat and fur/skin?

You mean like when indians took scalps?

War is essentially hunting each other. I support some wars depending on the circumstances.

Whoa, what did that little bear ever do to you!?:kidsmirk:

Jk, I didn't think there was going to be that many carebears here.

Share some pics! I've always wanted to see the Northeast...

Predators kill other predators. Its the way of life. Populations are controlled by humans. Idk about you but i dont want bears roaming around near schools and playgrounds due to over population. This is a real problem where i live. You can use every part of a bear, with no waste

if bears were a real threat where you or I live, then i would agree. but they are minding their own business.

I live near grizzly bears and they are spreading way out of their normal areas. They are in places they havent been in for over 100 years. I get it though, i would have a hard time pulling the trigger on such a beautiful animal. But i dont think we should pretend like they aren't spreading and arent a real risk. I know 2 people personally who have been attacked in the last several years. One elk hunter and one fly fisherman, both badly injured but lucky to survive none the less

even so, the bears are not out to cause harm. they are simply living. imagine if you were hunted because the dominant species decided so, but made no real difference in terms of threat.

have you eaten bear before?  i have not, but most people i know say the meat is not that great.  it's all about the fat/grease.

are you able to discern a healthy, "wild" bear from a trash-bear?  where i used to live, most of our bear were trash-bears, living off what they raided from peoples' trash/recycling and empty cabins they break into....and that was way out in the hills where their range included state forest and BLM land, lots of creeks/rivers and steelhead.

Bear chilli is great.

I don't know about distinguishing the two bears. I am assuming their stomach would tell a story.

I never shot one. Yet.

I have never hunted bear but I have eaten it several times. It tends to be rather greasy especially the older larger ones.
