Soybean Hull Sourcing
    #25894867 -

I'm planning on getting some soybean hulls to play around with, but I'm not sure about the stuff I am finding near me. Should I be looking for 100% soybean hulls? All of the products I am finding are a mix of a few different things.

Here's three examples;

I thought the first one looked better, but I'm not too sure.

Am I just looking in the wrong places?

I Get my soybean hulls from southern states. I don't know how close you are to one but there are a few in Georgia.

Are they 100% soybean hulls?

Do you get them from granaries, feed stores, places like tractor supply or fleet farm?
I asked at our very small local feed supply place but they are pretty limited.  Thinking of taking a run to Manitoba as they have more farm land there, more feed stores etc.
(Now I'm bugging you on this thread  )

Do you know the low end of what those places will sell? I probably only have enough space to store ~100 maybe 150 lbs

Southern states will sell me whatever I want. But I believe each store is independently owned so it may be different where you are. Where I am 100 or 150 I could get easily.

The ag coop i use has them bagged or bulk. They will sell 1 bag. Some will even bag out bulk for you if handy.

I'm in the Midwest and have completely given up on finding Soybean Hulls near me.

What you're looking for are 100% soybean hulls and they come in pellet form. I've sourced everything that has a phone number with a 90 min radius of me. My next option will be looking for something next time I'm on vacation outside that 90 min radius.

Good luck.

What are you trying to grow with them? Soybeans can be supplemented with wheat bran, but (according to others) it's not as good.

I'm an idiot, I just realized that you were talking about a store and not that they're easier to find in the south
I looked them up and unfortunately they are almost 2 hrs away from me. I have a few other leads though

I got a few numbers that I'm going to call around to once I have an afternoon free. This is one of those few times that living out in the boonies might come in handy!

I don't really have any specifics plans with them, I just like playing around with different substrates. I don't see myself doing it consistently with anything other than oysters though.

I get on average 1/4 pound more per flush from each block. So it is worth the two-hour drive if you are trying to make money and you are picking up enough to make the trip. I harvest about 100 pounds a week so I make an extra $250 a week with no more work. I guess it depends on what you are doing on whether it is worth it or not

I get mine from a local feed shop. That's the only place I've found to carry them.

I have friends all over the mid west. Can someone pm me the name if not comfortable saying on here?  If close enough, I could have someone pick up for me.

One of the reviews if from someone who grew mushrooms off of them, so yeah it'll work. They're awfully expensive though.

Cheapest I've seen yet

But yeah, at first I was like "$10 for 50# that's not bad! Oh... I added a zero"

I have seen 50# for ~$14, I just need o find a place within driving distance that carries it. I'm going to be calling around this afternoon. I'll update with my results.
If you happen to be in NY there's this website https://feedsforless.com/products/organic-soy-hulls-bulk-by-the-ton

I actually found out I have a southern states closer to 45 min away from me, google maps was just being weird. I'm hopeful they will carry it.

So I got pretty lucky and found out the feed store 2 min down the road from me can special order soy hull pellets at ~$8 per #50 bag! I'll be picking them up next week.

I feel like a dumbass. For longest time I thought that place was just a little podunk hardware store, but turns out they are stocked well with just about everything I need. Got some hardwood pellets and rice bran while I was there as well. They also carry beet pulp pellets so I might be experimenting with that soon.
