Is my first cake looking ok?
    #25889553 - 03/22/19 08:13 AM (1 month, 3 days ago)

Yesterday

Today

I am misting/fanning 3 times a day. It’s been in the sgfc for about 3-4 days. There is a four-finger depth of perlite in a 16qt tub with holes 2x2 on all 6 sides. (I have a bigger one but until my other jars are ready I’m using this small one). Is there anything I’m forgetting? Any advice? Thanks in advance!

It looks fine to me. Continue what youre doing and id say you will see pins in the next 2 to 3 days.

Thank you. That sounds good.
I also have this:
It’s two cakes spawned to coir. Does it look like it’s too saturated? I think I over sprayed but it was looking dry and felt light compared to when I first put it in the sgfc. Idk if you can tell from the pics.. but it’s looked like this for a few days now. I took this pic right after I spray/fanned it

I probably should’ve left them as cakes but I just wanted to try it...

Also I don’t mean to bombard you with questions, hopefully anybody will give me some advice... I am searching and reading constantly but it really helps me to talk to someone about exactly what I’m doing..

Those trays are already about to put out pins. All those little bumps are hyphal knots. Stick that tray in a sgfc and mist and fan it like you would your cakes. Just make sure you dont have still standing water on top of the substrate.

Lol I got anxious and made a whole-nother post about this tray..thanks for responding.
I thought I did something wrong because the myc isn't as fluffy as when I first put it in the sgfc.. Thanks again my friend!

your holes are big enough, you shouldn't have to fan.  You want high humidity to keep your myc well hydrated, something misting alone isn't going to do. Sprinkling verm on top of your tray will help with moisture.  If you are anxious and want to be active with your SGFC, feel free to mist the inside walls and lid.

For a single cake, I like to use a large 2/3 gallon jar with perlite in the bottom.  Having the cake surrounded by the saturated walls (about 2inches away on all sides) seems to induce pinning on all sides.

You mean one cake in a jar? Just perlite I’m the bottom, no lid is all?

I put 4 holes in the lid and for the FC container a bulk peanut butter or bulk pickle jar works well to be able to get your hand in to harvest. I've even used balled up damp newspaper (non-laminated) instead of perlite.  It takes longer to fruit but works if you don't want to buy perlite for small grows.

Yea, it was the white spots on it that made me think they were cracking from being dry since I missed a full day of mist/fanning. i've been looking at pics of aborts too. I don't think these are aborts, these are the first fresh psilocybe cubensis ive ever seen in my life..
