Beautiful find! Does it really taste like seafood? "wonderfully chewy texture and taste slightly reminiscent of seafood" doesnt sound good to me lol

It's a mushroom haven for sure. Just talking US, it's gotta be on par with the PNW, bay area, Ohio river valley, and FL in terms of actives and edibles.
The manes love you bloody.

One of the most diverse regions for fungi, and plants.

I dont know about shutting down, Ive noticed when I harvest, I dont find another fruiting for 2 to 3 years in the same spot. my guess would be when its harvested it focuses on spreading its mycelium.

though they seem to be more prolific during cooler months. But a lot of people dont look up in trees. which is where i tend to find them during summer, harder to see as well with the leaf coverage.

I dunno, if you've ever taken a walk in a PNW temperate rain forest during the fall, then popped right out of it onto the beach to pick in the dunes, you'd know what a mushroom forest looks like!
We should really do more forays out here...

I could be wrong, but I believe that if the whole fruit is harvested, it will take a year for it to come back, if some is left after the 1st harvest, you can sometimes get a second batch later in the year.

Fair - I don't speak from experience, unfortunately. I can only speak to north GA and the bay area. PNW probably stacks up against any spot in the world.

^ Yeah definitely. Anywhere with a (sub)tropical or Mediterranean/oceanic climate. The Australians and New Zealanders kill it as well.
