Customer: "my computer is dead"
Me: "well lets have a look"
As I move the computer from the floor to the desk a brown liquid pours out the side...

A friend: "the computer I just built won't turn on, can you look at it?"

Me: "sure, lets have a look."
Me: "ummmm where are the motherboard stand-offs? You cant just bolt the motherboard to the metal frame, you see how the bottom of the motherboard is crushed up against the case, I'm pretty sure you just toasted the MOBO."

A friend "Oh, is that what those plastic things were for..."

A few years ago, I was refurbishing old computers(really old, 286's) for people to word process, play Bard's Tale etc. And I turned on one computer, it seemed to work completely, but the CMOS battery had died, so I opened it up to replace it and found an old wasps nest one one of the cards.

A 3.5 inch disk in a slot-in CD reader...

"Oh, I just turned my head when I was inserting the disk and it went in the wrong hole"

Disassembled CD-rom, Removed floppy disk, restarted... ...IT WORKED!!!

Mounted a piece of tape over the CD-unit.

She thanked me especially for the tape...
