First step is probably don't get pre-poured plates lol.
But seriously, search for some clone TEKs, there are some good ones on here. I think FrankHorrigan's is what I use, don't recall

Review your understanding of sterile procedure, look at information on contamination on plates, hidden contamination too. Look at peoples pictures of contaminated plates and read their questions and look at the answers for common issues regarding agar where you can find it. Read, learn things for yourself and do everything yourself or you'll likely end up disappointed and spending more money than you should. Look into everything enough to know that you're ready for the entire process without much question.

Is the contamination forum less dead nowadays? I keep seeing people mention it, but I've had more luck understanding what's going on here in mush cult.
You can cook agar without a pc no problem. Just sterilize some tools and dont let anything not sterile over any media. It just sterile procedure

$4 a plate can add up fast if you're growing in bulk...but you should learn how to mix agar yourself. You should definitely get a PC...then Start with some pasty plates or use 125mL glass jars with a filter for gas exchange. Then you can make no pour ones yourself. It'll be way cheaper, cheap enough that it will pay off the PC you buy, because then you won't be paying $4 a plate
Hopefully they are a proper nutrient ratio and actually sterile. Are they just in petri dishes? Or some kind of sealed container?

At 4$ a plate my PC would have already paid for itself within 1 round of pasty plates. At least the high cost will motivate you to not get lazy with your sterile procedure

what they said. I only started working with agar this year, but it's been great. Using pastyplates like sh4d0ws explained. The glasses came 25 for 14€. Agar powder is cheap af and the nutrients are free if you keep the water from boiling grains. The best part is that you can use them over and over with just paying for making the agar.

equally dead i think ? and me too ; although i will post this there for sure to ask for id of the contam
i'm having a hard time telling apart my myc from contam , this outter edges maaaan
is it really mold or bacteria growing below my myc ? or is it the first stages of the advance of my myc ? i'm talking about the fine tiny threads leading the mycelium
i just did transfers yesterday and used PDA with karo, i'm hoping to see clearer growth maybe ?
overrun by the tiny threads :
i've let it go before and maybe the mycelium wins the battle but still carries the contam to grain , maybe this had it and i didn't noticed ?

it just occurred to me that i should isolate it and see it better duh...
but anyway , pretty sure someone is already an expert ;

dmppb said: hello !
so my tubs were colonizing and pinning but then stopping and aborting , so after checking and testing my plates and jars realized everything was dirty , now i'm at the cleanup process but i'm having a hard time getting rid of what i think is a contamination ;
bacterial pin
spawn that looked "ok"
tubs were quick to colonize pins at day 14
bad flushes :
yellow drop and uncolonized kernel :
so , culprits and things i know i did wrong
-did not vent my PC while pc'ing grain jars ( how much did this affected? ) -did not check my jars properly and that yellow drop was most likely present along with that single uncolonized kernel -my agar plates had hidden bacteria or mold but were not visible because of the persistent use of peroxide , then passed to grain and so on. - these outter edge tiny threads were present but were mistaken for myc.
so question ; what are these tiny threads and how do i get rid of them ? i can understand the rest is bacteria caused by poor sterile tek.
gracias !!!

I'm not going to touch the grain jars.. but the plates I think have something hidden. the leading edge likes to be thin. but it should be uniform and the same width from the main culture

exactly ! some may have it a little in front of myc and it's almost not visible , and growing almost just as fast , and then this offshoot looks all wrong and very similar to this shit :
i did transfers yesterday and will keep looking out ?

Tweeq said: Hey @sd so when can you speak of a new variety? I am confused about that. I read something about after f6?
There is this Dutch vendor that comes up with all kinds of 'strains' that are hybrids. But on fsre I read that this was a f1 hybrid. So are those stable non degenerative varieties you think? Got the links for you if you like but I don't think I am allowed to share those here
Honestly, I'm not sure the technicality here. I believe that Rusty Whyte was on F9 F7 (thanks Tryp) when it was released. I imagine it will take a while to get to that point where it's putting out consistent phenotypes from what I'm looking for, and will be slow AF.
Not sure what's going on with that vendor. A hybrid of what exactly? A cube is a cube, so I'm just aiming for phenotypes like color, size, potency, etc.

Here were my results: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25871458#25871458
Took a long ass time of cleaning them up to get there. Flush 2 just finished and had the same blue caps. I'm hoping to make a variety out of these weirdos!
They look really cool! How is the potency? Is it the same as normal APE?
Haven't had a chance yet. Test coming this weekend. Will likely report on Monday. If it's APE/PE level, I'm going to be super excited. They keep coming up with blue caps, and they flush almost instantly/constantly. First flush only had 5 days of down time between flushes. Even if the weight is low, if they're pumping out flushes at this rate they're still a winner, just with more work.
