First Time Using CVG Top Layer
    #25885758 -



This is a 20qt tote spawned using 1:2 spawn:sub ratio 2 weeks ago.  It is PE, which I normally case, but I had extra sub and decided to just do a top layer at spawn.  The top layer is probably 1/2"-1".

As you can see in the pic, the top layer has been partially consumed.  If this were a true casing, I would be fruiting right now, but since it's just a top layer, I'm not sure what to do.

Do I wait until the mycelium completely colonizes the top before introducing to fruiting? Or treat it like a casing and fruit now?

Yo!
Just wait, be patient, dealing with the same thing on my end, give it extra time to do its thing. Once you see knots, you're good. I'd say another week or two.

Edit-Maybe not that long, just overshooting to be on the safe side, probably less than a week.

So you've successfully used a top layer before and waited for knots?

That's what I do with no top layer.  Wasn't sure if I was supposed to treat it like a casing.
