Works great in PDA . I've been using it as opposed to karo because the salt and vanilla seem extraneous
PDA works fine by itself. no need for added sugar. it helps with germination i guess, and pasty said it helps leap off times. but I really think it only belongs as a food product

a little squirt of honey seemed to help performance when I was using potato flakes, but I was also just starting to practice with agar. Moved on to GW and haven't changed since.

Guys, just came back to apologize again.. this is now eating at me.. i didn't mean to upset anyone with a light hearted joke that i thought someone might laugh at I also did not mean to de-rail a 1300 page thread.. I honestly am worried that we will never recover from this and perhaps we should just delete this whole thing and make anew one
BOD... i deserve a 24 hour ban please... I feel as though i have ruined the entire message board and i will commit some self harm later to punish myself (thanks chaturbate!!)
P.S. on topic.. umm how's you guys mushrooms doin? Whoa.. i think i fixed the thread!

I just threw(spawned)6 qts of bacterial RW into the sub graveyard. Covered with some leftover coir and topped it with wet straw, covered the whole thing in plastic.

Got to peeking under some debris around the edge of the pile and found some myc that survived the winter.(along with what looks like frog eggs)
My goal is to build a pile that consumes old subs/straw/hpoo and spits out natural outdoor cubes.

I am waiting to see if my old spawns made it and i will have random yard shrooms this year

so.. under the frost layer it stays at about 50 year round... do you think if you had a deep enough spawn pile it would maintain enough heat through the winter?

I believe it would. The outer part of the pile may die,but in the center I bet the myc will huddle up and wait for it's time.
My intro into psychedelic mushrooms was in the form of multiple aged horse stable waste mounds in a farmers cow field, that were literally covered in cubes.(magical sight, and I wish I had more pics for proof.cluster in my sig was on the outer edge of one of these mounds) I'd love to recreate that in some form right in my own back yard.
Anyway, those mounds would produce year after year.(growth varying with the weather conditions)So the myc had to just be laying low in the safe temp zone over the winters. Keep in mind winter isn't always terrible here in the US sauce pan.

BlueDisa said: Can somebody please confirm to me that these are Ps. mexicana fruits?
First attempt at cultivation Ps mexicana failed as spawn jar got trich and I chucked it in a flowerpot with some soil and about two months later I have got these growing from it.
Pretty sure they are Psilocybe mexicana but would just like some further confirmation as I intend on using them for more spores and obviously don't want to be doing it with some undesirable species.
There is some ink caps growing in there as well that I am aware of.

I've been wondering if this was possible. The idea of overwintering warm weather species in this way is interesting.

I used a tiny bit of karo syrup in my PDA agar for the first time and holy crap.. i have never had anything grow in agar like this.. It could be a fluke, but i will be using it for now on just in case.
