Substrate thickness (Coco Coir)/ Short mushrooms problems * 1
    #25881256 - 03/18/19 01:17 AM (5 years, 30 days ago)

The substrate thickness is a little more than 2 inches (Coir to Spawn ratio is 3:1). First harvest = 319grams wet. Which sucks i think.

Also i may have been lazy while introducing fruiting conditions, the mushrooms only received roughly 3 days of artificial light (Cool daylight, 12 hours on 12 hours off) before harvest.

My question is how do i produce mushrooms with longer stalks? And how do i prevent bottom pins?

Too wet at field capacity can cause shorties, or genetics

Same spore syringe. I also think it's genetics but not entirely.Come to think of it i have had very few decent sized mushrooms (Once on BRF cakes the others im posting here).

The 'big one' is from my 3rd flush from the same cake you see in the pic (but this time i fruited it in an icebox instead of SGFC), but the cake only did 2 or 3 of those mushrooms. Maybe starving them of oxygen has something to do with longer stalks?

How much spawn was used?  My favorite culture produces about an oz dry per qt jar of spawn used over two or three flushes.

Try a 2:1 ratio instead of 3:1.

I think i used alot of spawn for this. Achieved full colonization in a week or so. Harvested in 15 days total after adding spawn to substrate.

That’s a bit long, but not unheard of.  I usually harvest 10-11 days after making the sub, but I’ve had it take up to 21 days before.

Again, it is impossible for me to say how decent this was without knowing how much spawn was used.

Damn yall fast!  It takes me like 2 weeks to see pins and another 5 days till they are ready my spawn to bulk is like 1:2.5 or something. I use one mycoquart per shoebox and 1 brick of coir gets me 4 shoeboxes with some extra for spawning silly little stuff.
