That was a transfer so just a little piece of agar wedge.

For the first plate though I actually scraped that print.  It was so dry and stuck to the foil I couldn’t streak.  Had a hard time scraping.

I have a pint of oats colonized with Ps.Cyanescens.(another 1.5 qts colonizing)

I'm wanting to expand this,should I make up a bag of sawdust(fuel pellet tek),or g2g to expand?
These will be expanded as needed, spawned to woodchips and then an outdoor bed.

I just g2g'd the shit out of my allenii and then spawned them to different sized totes of wood chips.

Some wood chips were soaked for a few days, others just rinsed straight out the bag. All the totes colonized about the same time and were all healthy. Just transferred to my outside beds a couple days ago.

Just :2cents: I'm sure the sawdust/pellet route would work too man....

Just from this morning it has gotten much worse.  I took a couple of transfers, hope the outside is useable.

So is layering better than mixing the spawn all in like normal?

Just spawned my azure shoebox to 30 quarts of sub outside. And my stuntzii/ovoid/cyans/allennii/tamps/hoog are all germinating well on cakes. Gonna be a good fuckin year!

They're finally staying above freezing consistently. Thats what I was waiting for. The shoebox had been done and consolidating for a full month

I know some people say its fine to spawn in winter but it just didn't seem like it would do much if all the water was ice.

I found a 'scholarly article' about growing ovoids, weird.

An excerpt where they produce a successful indoor grow by transferring outdoor mycelium inside: P. ovoideocystiata: "This grow is an attempt to simulate a hard winter, followed by a spring thaw, which produces a flood, which picks up colonized wood, and buries it in mud along the stream bank.  It was a very mild winter in 2005. We did have a few freezing days in early December, but since then the mercury has rarely fallen below freezing.
We first collected the wild mycelium and put it in the freezer in a plastic bag. The next morning, when we removed it from the freezer, it was frozen solid; in fact, we had concerns that we may have damaged or killed the mycelia, but figured out that if it could survive being frozen in the wild, then perhaps it could survive in the freezer.
A collection of frozen mycelium was gathered and bagged up, as was a large bag full of the muddy sandy-like soil from along the riverbank where we collected the mycelial of P. ovoideocystidiata.
For this next step we used glad-ware dishes for use with the substrate of the muddy-river soil.  To insure good drainage, similar to that of the wild, we melted about twenty holes in the bottom of each of the glad-ware dishes by hating a nail with a candle and then striking it through the bottom.  We then put about an inch of river sand/mud in the bottom of each dish, followed by about an inch of frozen colonized wood chips/branches, twigs, etc.  Then we cased the top of each glad-ware container with another ½ inch of sandy mud.  Next we gave it a thorough soaking with cold tap water to wash the loose mud into the many empty spaces around the substrate.
Then we placed the dishes into a larger tub humidified by wet orchid moss This probably worked better than with perlite because it covered more surface area), and we were able to preserve it at room temperature near a window; often fanning and misting the tub and glad-ware containers at least several times a day.  Within ten days we were finally able to see some results of our experiment as several pins began to appear.  Workman of Spore Works Labs reported it as a “very nice grow.” "

tldr: They essentially just froze wild mycelium, thawed it, cased it, and put directly into FC indoors.

I found this interesting because don't people usually not get good results from indoor ovoids? The pic of their results looks damn fine. I wonder if this would work for other species that are hard to fruit indoors.

I love that they were surprised that something they put in a freezer froze solid. Friggin college kids

Interesting article.  So late in the season to do this since spring is on the way where I live in the PNW but worth trying anyway with the spawn I have.

Just noticed they got these results from a mere 1 inch layer of colonized woodchips, that seems awfully shallow.

Wish they had pics of all the tubs they did so had a better idea of the results.

It is said mycelia fruit when it is stressed and running out of substrate so this could be true.

This article is by no other than J. Allen (rings a bell? "P. allenii") and J. Gartz.

Not so simple. For example, they collected some river mud and sandwiched the myc within it.

Ah I did not notice that about the authors, good catch.

Maybe our level of skill differs, but putting mud in a bag and then later into a tub sounds very simple. The whole point of TLDR is to simplify what was previously written in detail. Stands for "too long did not read"

My first time fruiting Gymnopilus luteofolius - oats spawned to coir with a little oak sawdust.

Fruited exactly like cubensis, room temp. Not exactly like some other woodlovers, but quite nice looking.

I think I read this although I thought it was they collected the wild mycelium from River mud froze it and then fruited it

Bitter, but not intolerable. I don't have enough for a dose yet, just harvested some for prints.

@Psilosopherr

What I wanted to convey is that fruiting ovoids indoors is not so simple, in my experience. A reproducible way to do it would be a big deal for me.
