Anyone know what species this is?
    #25876318 - 03/15/19 04:25 PM (5 years, 1 month ago)

Found this shit growing under a tree on some woodchips next to a fence in southern california.... the cap is brownish and there is a purple like hue on the inside of the cap and a little on the base of the stem.... white outer stem and gills..very fleshy

These do not appear to be Amanitas or anything too poisonous.. any ideas?>
I don't really feel like waiting all day for some spore prints..cause I only found 3 of these ...perhaps if I found more I might get a print..

Do you know what species of tree it was found around?

I believe the gills of clitocybes are attached lower down on the stems

A spore print is usually a defining factor so if you could get one it would be much easier. I'll keep looking into it though.

Could possibly be Tricholoma portentosum. The pictures arent the greatest but look it up and see for yourself if it matches

yes I think you are on to something...It certainly appears to be some sort of tricholoma species.... possibly tricholoma saponaceum (soapy knight)

Magic, as in psychedelic? Look for blue bruising and get familiar with common species like Psilocybe and Panaeolus. This kind of shape and size isnt usually an active species.

If you mean the Soapy Trich its probably not correct. those only pop up around july through november and dont have a purple hue but a pink one instead. I dont think we can rule out a clitocybe species just yet either, again a spore print would narrow it down.

They do seem fairly old so most of their spores are probably dropped by now

Personally, I would like to see better pictures that are clear and up close.
