Hi Guys,

I'm also new face!

I've curious of trying mushroom for long time. Now, I think I'm mentally ready to give it a try!
living in Sydney around Como Suburb. I had a walk into a park last weekend after a full week of rain but it's still so dry to see any. I don't have experience on this. Please please let me know if you're around this area and going on the short mushroom trip! I'd love to accompany!

Thank you!

Welcome to the shroomery,  you can't ask that here, it's against the rules.

However,  you live in an area where you can find what you're looking for,  research psilocybe cubensis, psilocybe aeruginosa, Psilocybe weraroa, etc.

When you find what you think you are looking for, post clear close up pictures of the cap, gills/pores and stipe,  in situ photos are helpful. We will do our best to help you identify your mushrooms

--------------------
DISCLAIMER: I study the macro/micro taxonomy of mushrooms, but I can make mistakes, I'm human, not to mention identification from pictures is difficult. If you want to eat it, varify all identifications of non actives before doing so, it's up to you to be sure we are right.

Hello everyone!

Last Autumn was my first hunting season, I had the time of my life researching, hunting for and experimenting with Psilocybe subaeruginosa
I'm really excited to get back out there soon, but I'm intrigued by these more rarer actives you guys are finding, they look wicked!

I had a dream where I found a patch of giant subs growing in a hollowed out, moist old tree, I can't wait.

Good luck everyone!

Dreaming of finding mushrooms is Cryptic, As IME goes with dreaming of picking mushrooms; within a few days of the dream or that day I find heaps!

Slow-moving thunderstorms delivered the heaviest rain in two years to parts of northeast NSW during the last week.

A coastal trough moving over land caused heavy rain and storms in the state's northeast during Thursday night and Friday morning.

Lismore Airport received 63mm of rain between 5:30pm on Thursday and 9am Friday, which was its highest daily total since October last year.

Further north, a rain gauge at Doon Doon registered 170mm during the 24 hours to 9am on Friday, which was its heaviest rain in two years.

Thunderstorms also brought 10-30mm of rain to parts of the Northern Tablelands and North West Slopes and Plains districts on Thursday afternoon and evening.

Inverell received 32mm during one intense storm just before 4pm on Thursday, with 18mm falling in just 10 minutes.

Hey guys, new face here. Curious what everyones picking this time of year, especially with the amount of rainfall we just had in NSW.

Been doing my research and it seems cubensis is pretty sought after this time of year but i'm not too sure about asking farmers if I can look in their cow's feaces.
Also thinking it's probably too early for subaeruginosa unless I got really lucky.
Having any luck with your picks lads?

Found about 40 P.undescribed growing in a ditch near a log. Same area found two bunches o P.papuana. About 20 specimens under leaves near the same log.

That was after the last lot of rain in March. Dried out again but this little bit of light rain now should encourage fruiting in a couple of days I hope.

Assume you're inland more than I am considering only getting light rain. We had 90mm in some areas in the span of an hour. Think it's just about either killed or washed away any type of fungus locally. Reassuring to know that you're finding species though, i'll be spending tomorrow on the hunt in a few areas tomorrow. Thanks

That's the kind of rain I need for my patch of P.tasmaniana to start fruiting again. So it depends on the species. Most Psilocybe species love those heavy downpours to start the season off.

In FNQld the P.semilanceata needed a monsoonal trough dropping at least six inches of rain in one go to get them fruiting. Same when I found
them  in this state.
An east coast low dropped about a foot of rain over five days. It was very interesting at the time because I found P.tasmaniana and P.semilanceata in the same area after that rain event.

I could compare their morphological differences. At the time back in 2009 I was calling both species liberty cap allies. Light species was P.semilanceata and dark species was P.tasmaniana.

Great to hear you're finding actives Heyowana:smile: I just arrived in NSW late last night. Haven't stretched the legs yet. I spotted this sub on the side of a logging track while driving out of camp. Bloody excited to get out there.

Nice one. I take it you are at a high elevation? Way too warm here to get subaeruginosa yet.

Cheers all:thumbup:

Heyowana, you live in a real paradise for mushroom hunting. Just one national park makes up the entire Mt Lofty ranges of SA and there's so many of them. Expansive to say the least.

I'm finding the subs at 1400m elevation.

Pretty confident I've run into some P.papuana today. Thanks again for your helpful threads on Identifying the species and likely habitat.

Here's some pics.
