Polypropylene Wide Mouth Lids Source
    #25874465 - 03/14/19 06:30 PM (2 months, 11 days ago)

Anyone have a source for these? I found one vendor with them listed, but of course they are out of stock. I understand that the common storage lid works, but I am tired of them becoming deformed after so many rounds in the pc.

How about these?
Lids

Only catch is one would have to order 4 cases @ 375 lids per case to avoid a fifty dollar minimum order charge. Group buy?

If you order those, I would throw in. I would love to have some non-warping lids!

Just PM me.

Edit: Only if that's not against any of shroomery rules

My common ball and mainstays storage lids don't warp, but I use a silicone gasket on the bottom.

We're probably not supposed to mention it but IDK, fungi perfecti carries them I think they sell 100 packs of the wide mouth and regular mouths. They are similar to the ball plastic lids but apparently better quality and they end up being around the same price or cheaper.

FWIW I use ball plastic lids for all my jars, with cut down synthetic filter disks siliconed over two 1/8" holes for gas exchange

A couple here and there may have warped slightly but they've been used plenty and even the slightly warped ones still work fine. I have yet to have any issues that were caused from ball plastic lids.

I’ve been rocking the Mainstay plastic lids from Walmart for five months now, and zero issues so far.  1/8 inch hole, plugged with poly fill.

I haven’t even changed out the poly fill yet.

How many times are you usually able to use the regular plastic lids before you have to replace them? Ive got some sitting around from a while ago that were used probably 4-5 times, and im trying to decide if i should just make new ones or not.

I think the reason that people are experiencing the warping is because they do not have enough ventilation with their filter set up. Plastic is soft and malleable when it gets hot, even when it doesn't melt... and if you do not have enough ventilation in the lid filter to keep up with the vacuum that forms when it is cooling or the pressure from the boiling inside during the cook then it will warp the lid up.

Those mainstay from Wally word? Mine warped  after about 6 uses. Haven't tired the ball ones.

Same but I don't bother with a gasket

I only use them for my liquid culture jars since I use spawn bags for grain, and they can sometimes leak without a gasket.

I have thread tape on my LC jars with Ball lids. Not sure if they'd leak without it I just followed some tek back then that said to use it. No tape or gasket in grain jars with no issues. 1/4" hole with a sfd.

Jar lids don't seal on the threads Grimsweeper. They seal by pressing against the top of the glass to the bottom of the lid. There is no amount of thread tape on those ultra coarse threads that will make any difference.

Agreed the seal is the horizontal surface at the top of the threads not the threads themselves.

I turn my lids upside down so they don't seal.

And plastic lids can be found at the grocery store. Not sure if someone said that. There's a mason jar section and they have everything. Metal and plastic replacement lids

Yeah that makes sense. Like I said I just followed whatever LC tek I read back then. Then I thought maybe it makes the lids easier to open but I know the tek included whatmans so that doesn't make sense either. Go figure

There are some places with the 110mm lids on hand, but those are for gallon sized jars.
The wide mouth quart and half gallon are 90mm.

Mine probably warp from screwing on too tightly, which I have been working to soften my GI Joe, Kung Fu grip.
Nonetheless, there a few polypropylene regular sized lids in my mix now and they are very prefereable over the regular plastic ones.

You can also just pull the seal out. Then it won't seal but it won't slide around either once you take the ring off.

These feel harder and harder to get every day at a reasonable price, haha.

I was buying them at target for $3.50 for 8, the best I've found other than some 3rd party bulk sellers linked here. Suddenly, they're not available and went to clearance in my local store. Also unavailable online, ha.

Anyone have any good amazon/ebay/other online links to rec that aren't in the 300/pack range? I ordered some colored lids and they seem fine, though a little leaky. I'll use the official Ball ones for LCs...also wondering if these 3rd party ones will successfully survive PC'ing without a warp or melt.
