Nice! Been waiting on that one. :awesomenod:  I finally decided that my bottle grows stalled @ like 80% and (I just got back in town after working on a project...) I have them all out in a tub with a bag of compost on the front porch to pick apart and try to salvage for an outdoor grow.  I should have done a couple more transfers on those cultures. :facepalm:  Hopefully I get some fruits still.  Starting more spores too just in case.  :saulgoodman:

I am assuming you mean subtropicales.

Bruised mycelium on colonized grain spawn is normal with this species, especially if you let the grain spawn sit for several weeks. I once shook up a 4 month old jar of subtrop myc that I had forgotten about and it all turned dark blue! Was quite a surprise to see. I hear that subtrop is a good candidate for myceliated grain teks but I haven't ever tried.

There shouldn't be any problem with spawning to your substrate of choice, if that bruising came from bumping the jar. If it is bruising from fighting bacteria then there could be issues.

Subtropica bruises alot in my experience, and they are high in psilocin because you can get effect from eating the myc, I have tested.

Another scratch-dunk-recase success story.  This culture spent a couple of months throwing out malformed fruits and aborts.  Mold was beginning to show up in the casing.  It was earmarked for the compost heap.  Glad I gave it a second chance!

That is one of the most beautiful Zap phenos I have seen! You already produced most of the other best I have seen, haha! All your grows are so freak'n healthy!

Amazing work!!!

Your last post inspired me to go back and retry old Straw:BRF Substrates in half pint jars like I used to before I knew anything about zap needs. I literally just made up 20 jars.

If a flush of the hot humid climate mushrooms like zaps and subtropicales stalls out you can just scrape off the casing then dunk the substrate in water for 4-8 hrs then recase and reintroduce to fruiting conditions. However, if your substrate contains grains spawn try not to expose or damage the grain.

Thanks, y'all.  Mycorry, zaps just freaking love a cup of straw/verm/BRF.  I've been lazy about trying other recipes, because they do so well on it.  Up to this point, my results with caerulescens on the same recipe have been much poorer, but that might also be a lack of the right culture.  This particular zap clone is more temperamental than some of the others, but the phenotype makes up for it.

First hispanica spawned today



As u can see it's a slow colonizer.

26/05, not overgrown at all when spawned today 10/08

No strong smell bit definitely something vaguely unique

I have been playing around with P. hispanica for quite a while now as well, so I can attest to the slow colonization rate. I have cleaned out a jar that was still not completely colonized after several months thinking it had an undetected contamination, only to find out it smelled just fine upon opening it.

I started from spores and made enough transfers to get a decent looking culture on agar. Then I made LC with it. Whenever I inject grain jars with this LC, it takes a long time to even see anything growing and it takes an even longer time to colonize the grains that didn't get into direct contact with the LC.

I sent the culture to a good cultivator and he was able to fruit it, so I'm determined to get the same results eventually!

For a while I forgot about these jars that were inoculated the 20th of April. The left one seems to be almost completely colonized, while the right one still had some uncolonized spots when I retrieved the jars, so I gave it a shake on the 8th of July. Maybe I will try and spawn them soon, using a high amount of grain spawn. Not getting my hopes up for these old jars though.



These somewhat more recent jars were injected with LC on the 8th of June. You can still see where the LC was injected in the right jar. I gave the left jar a shake about a month ago, but it's not fully colonized yet. When I tilt the jar, some grains come loose.



Could you provide more details about you endeavors with P. hispanica? Did you make an LC, did you shake, what grains and substrate are you using, etc?

I did regular culture work with agar, colonizing corn and spawned to Verm coir lime. Agar to grain.

Haven't fruited them yet first box so methodology is therefore not interesting.

I've had jars similar to you with that kind of growth, but I'm also seeing more traditional mycelium growth (cubey) from other jars, including more rhizo growth.

So I wonder if we just have slow cultures and no experience.


I'm going to do a few straw jars of them next.

What sub did your fruiting friend use?

That's fascinating about the rhizomorphic mycelium! I have done a fair bit of transfers and started over from spores a few times, but never encountered this type of growth. Does it also grow noticeably faster?

Man, those grows are beautiful! Honestly, something to aspire to in terms of variety. I've never seen someone cultivate antillarum before. I was just thinking about trying that out today.

Im not sure if it's faster, the jar I will share here is half colonized at 2 months but chugging along.




This growth is on a very bacterial jar that I keep in the shit closet, but as you can see the mycelium is much more pronounced, much more traditional rhizo, fan like formations.

I'll bend over to someone saying it still looks shit right now, and will post another picture later of similar appearance in other jars

Don't got the others at home.

My hispanica is showing rhizo on agar, and also primordia, but no maturing of them, something stalls.
