Pop Corn Tek - OK to use Verm ONLY for Substrate???

First time doing PopCorn Tek and I see people saying "use coco coir and/or verm" but I always see people using a blend... I want to avoid using an un-colonized organic compound for bulk fruiting since it will be vulnerable to contam until the mycellium takes hold... Can I just use vermiculite and mix my colonized corn up with it?

Vermiculite is going to pack down and be too dense.  You would literally be trying to grow mycelium on rocks.

Coco coir is ridiculously resistant to contaminations especially when pasteurized.  It's my favorite bulk substrate.

Just use the coir its not a risk neither is pasturized manure, the risk comes in your grain spawn so if its clean fear not

I've seen someone having an okay grow from just casing the grain with wet vermiculite. Wish I could remember who it was.
