Does my lion's mane (h.erinaceus) look healthy?
    #25873091 - 03/14/19 02:30 AM (2 months, 6 days ago)

Hey,

I'm in need of some advice on the status of my h. erinaceus. It's my first grow of this species and I'm rather unsure whether the growing conditions are appropriate.
I put the bottles under fruiting conditions yesterday after 12 days of incubation. They started pinning early and looked mostly colonized. The mycelium wasn't visible in some parts but I took the risk and fruited them.
Temperature is around 18°C (64,4°F) now and the primordia (?) secrete some kind of brownish liquid and also look not exactly white but rather a little bit brown. Is this due to lack of FAE or hydration? I put the lid of the SGFC only halfway on top and mist them when they appear dry.

Here are some pictures (sorry for the suboptimal quality):

It looks like they're about to take off. I'm about to start my first lions mane grow too. The orange could just be metabolites being secreted from the mycelium. Happens to me sometimes, or they could be dry. Getting too dry will also turn them brown but I think that is still metabolites due to stress.

Thank you 🙂

I followed RR's advice and left the lid off the sgfc. But now i have the feeling that humidity is getting too low (I don't have a device to measure it). How often would you mist them to prevent drying out?

I would say a couple times a day but it totally depends on your climate and setup, best of luck!
