Psychedelics for Shamanism/Spirituality

I'm reading a book at the moment called Halfway Between Worlds, it talks a lot about using psychedelic plants for shamanic journeying, divination,
communicating with the spirits of nature etc, my question is do any of you use psychedelics strictly for shamanistic/spiritual purposes?

If so what approach do you take, what is your aid of choice and how do you prepare and perhaps you can share some of your experiences?

This is pretty much the only reason I take psychedelics. I take them alone in the silent darkness of my room, with the intent to give the substance my full attention and go deep within. Ideally I use a psychedelic that is relatively safe and go for a breakthrough dose. Sometimes it is to heal, sometimes it is to just learn and gather information, or to just let the experience unfold and see what the substance has to teach (which is part of any trip really)

I prefer mushrooms as of late, I recently broke through on 5 grams of Penis Envy mushrooms. That was quite something. No words can describe....

I will have to check out the book you mentioned! Thanks!

Well I guess no, I don't intend to communicate with the mushroom. The purpose for my trips is to have a moment of peace within the turbulence.

Nice. When you say you break through, what types of places do you usually go to? Is it more organic/real? or is it more geometrical/unrecognizable/jumbled?

Have you ever gone to places that resemble anything in our world, forests etc, or seen any familiar creatures/animals?

Or do you mean things that you see?

Mckenna used to always speak about communicating with the mushroom, but what makes you think it's the mushroom and not the self in an unobstructed/boundary dissolved/heightened/clear state??

We always smudge the area and people involved with sage and Palo Santo and say a prayer to the plant teachers and ask for their healing and wisdom. Accommodate the experience. Music is good but nothing the ego can cling to so nothing with understandable words. Silence is equally important. Having thing like singing bowls on hand are very helpful for those having a difficult time. It allows you to sooth the person without words therefore calming them without putting any other outside influence to their experience distracting them from the breakthrough they're trying to achieve. The plants are the teachers not the shaman. That's very important. At least imo/ime

To me natural entheogens seem to be teachers while lsd you seem to learn from your uninhibited self or something cosmic depending on the trip.i guess you could say it's less spiritual or spiritual in a different sense. More of a Buddhist/Taoist feel to it or like tapping into the collective consciousness

So do you think the entities that you can see when in the psychedelic state are the natural entheogens themselves transforming/showing themselves? there should be more studies done on this type of stuff

I feel like the spirit of the plant teacher is embedded in the experience and it doesn't usually manifest as the form of an entity. The entities I've met feel very separate from the spirits of the plant teachers and from myself usually. Its like they're allies to the plant teachers. the misses met "Flow" or the spirit of menstruation on DMT right before beginning her cycle. She wasn't a teacher or at least bestowed no wisdom but dwelled within that place

Oh lol.

The answer is simply I do not know.

  The communication seems to be mushroom dependant, or at least the verbal communication. Ayahuasca seems to communicate with sound and sight. Either way I don't have the slightest idea where it comes from. It's very likely just a projection of self but again it's too bizarre for me to be label it as one thing or another.

I ate some cubes in a forest where native species of psilocybin mushrooms grow. Also where wild snails dwell, wild snails eat mushrooms. I ate them with someone I grew them with and it was immeasurable. Like I was floating through the forest with him without any measure of time.

I'm new to this site and this if my 1st post.
I'm a long time "self watcher" and have found that plants are sentient beings here to teach and commune with us. We evolve with plants. Humanity is not aware of the interconnectedness of us with the planet.
Anyway I seek to be assisted into awareness of my higher Self. To do this there are certain plant allies we can absorb into our being.
Ganja is one great ally but she can be abused if we use her for purely physical reasons and never try to explore her totally.
She helps open the door to let us be able to feel the grace of Shiva (Or maybe better said, that blissful energy of joy. A taste of a deep peaceful contentment which doesn't get boring.
There are more advanced souls on earth who are able to go into bliss, with no assistance of herbs or shrooms, but for those of us who know this life is but a veil,  (not reality)yet we can't escape it's very real feel, need help from plant entities.

there was a time when I could tap into that bliss without drugs but I lost it for various and very stupid reasons. I've been trying to tap back in to it but not very successfully. There's to much going on in my life for me to find the time to sit down and focus enough on it to get there but I refuse to give up.
