Kiaora All,

Wondering if you could help me with these little babies I found.  I am a newbie so please go easy:

Habitat:
500 metres up a hill in a pine stand. These are growing on a felled pine tree.




Gills:
Browny grey




Stem:
2 - 3 cms, long thin, brown and dry



Cap:
Slightly conical with a bump on top.  The bump is a darker orange with the surroundings lighter orange or tan about 1cm in diameter



Still making a spore print

Thanks guys, didn't pick them so well or take good photos in their habitat as a bees nest was getting rather protective.

If they don't bleed blue on the stem, they're not active.

Yeah I wasn't planning on storing them long (with weraroa I think its a bit tricky) I just put them in the bag then the fridge for one night before having them. I think weraroa can't really be dried like other magics

Yeah there might be ways, but I've heard they can lose potency compared to magics that have a cap etc, rather than being a pouch fungus. Some people make it into a tea and freeze it, something like that. I have them fresh for now at least until I know a good method

@Dopameme ...  I found many patches in Christchurch last year:
so far this year:  no action.
I blame the lack of rain,  but perhaps it could be the recent atrocities in our city.  (Psiloycbes cant grow around evil)*

yeah, a bit of a late start to the season down here by the look of it.

We've had mild rain and rather low temps over the last week or two, so I would have thought they'd start popping up soon. Mind you I'm no expert...

guess I'll just keep lookin' :confused:

Started a little plot in an old fish tank last year, been watering it over the summer and it looks like the first pins have just started up. North Shore AKL.

Been keeping the tank inside a glass house to prevent it being washed out by rain. It definitely gets warmer in there compared to outside so if they are fruiting in the glass house then the temps should be low enough everywhere else - I'd say we're just waiting for that big spell of rain and then season should be in full swing. Haven't been in the game for a couple of years now but it looks like things are in full swing for this year!

Altho, in saying that, just went for a wee wander around Dunners and didn't find anything yet. Not too sure if it's just not quite wet enough, or if all my old spots are now dead... Did find some L. ceres and the good old birdsnest fungi tho, which usually suggest P. sub. should be popping up their little heads!

Not even much non-actives in Chch yet. Canterbury summers are very dry, we need the weather to get more seriously wet and cold than this. A few more weeks still. Those witchy Autumn nights whence the mushrooms come are nearly upon us... Happy hunting y'all.

You can make a tea and freeze it. No discernible change in potency over 3 months. Haven't kept for longer than that though...
