So excited, I've been checking the forums every day since I noticed the colder and wetter weather. Might have to start hunting in a few weeks.

Throwing some stipe butts in a garden and letting nature take its course?? Man....people gonna hate no matter what. If anything, be pumped for early sign of a season ahead!
Agreed. Controlled indoor cultivation is an entirely different thing to spreading some mycelium in your garden and waiting for nature to do its thing. People post pictures from their home gardens all the time, no reason you can't start the thread with those pictures I say.

Yea bro. I’m doing absolutely nothing to artificially stimulate mycelium growth or mushroom fruiting. I’m not even watering the patch. This is 100% natural fruiting, natural growing in natural conditions....the only thing I’ve done, is introduce the species to my property.

If you introduced it to your property it's not 100% natural

So humans aren't part of nature . . . Here was me thinking everything is natural . . .
I have noticed a crazy increase in myc growth in my home 'unnatural' (grain spawn to shredded cardboard to mulch bed) AK outdoor patch and hoped that the season was nearing. Nothing in my 'natural' patches yet . . .

Long term lurker, first time poster. The missus and I went for a hunt in the Kapiti region today. No actives found but 7 others species of fungus beginning to be abundant. Its a good sign the conditions are nearly there. Next foggy morning should be a go. Woohoo!

Nature noun noun: nature; plural noun: natures
1. the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth, as opposed to humans or human creations.
I don't see whats wrong with a garden patch used as the season starter. If anything i would have thought it would mean they'd be out in the bush, as it wasnt watered.

Hi all, I may have been hasty in thinking that yesterday's hunt had no result. I believe I found one Pluteus Velutinoratus. See pics. Can anyone confirm please? Also, has anyone had experience with these? It's an active species very new to me. Cheers. Can't figure out how to upload photo from phone but 100% sure of I.d.

Ahhh, you disagree . . . Sounds like human nature I did expect an answer, that is the nature of this forum. Was I disappointed, naturally . . . You don't need makeup, I prefer natural . . .

Lower North Island more then ideal conditions though, near river in a very cool shady place. All other spots are still dormant.

I wouldn't even had gone to have a look if it wasn't for the 2019 thread, so thanks for starting this

What an awesome score!!! I’m tempted to go for a drive to my “safe” patch, but it’s about an hours drive...I don’t generally go until April...probably going to have to go for a look this weekend now 🤷♂️😂

Hi guys, I know it's the start of mushroom season and I think I've found some liberty caps growing around a tree stump on my mum's farm in Taranaki. Can anyone confirm these are liberty caps as they seem bigger to what I'm used to and they also have white dots on top which I've never seen but that could be because they're more mature as they're shaded by a neighboring tree. Confirmation that these are liberty caps would really be appreciated.

Hi all, Very good to see the start of the season! Any ideas as to why its started so soon? I started to see non-actives popping up about a week ago and was thinking isn't this a bit early? I thought actives were supposed to pop up April/May so this seems strange.

First harvest of the year. Yes I pull. If I end up pulling up myc I try clean separate it from the stipe but and throw it back to the garden (after all, that’s how I started this garden). A small but imo fruitful start to the season in March 🥳
