Nelson bays 29 Apr 2019
Drawn to the bush for the excitement of it and didnt go unrewarded. That familiar smell of freshness and decay. Unaware of the cold and loving the walk. The old instincts kicking in and then back into the zone. Brushing up on my skills at home. Taking a few spore prints and looking over my photos. Browsing on the shroomery to see who is back, who is new and how the season is going.
Hello fellow hunters and thanks for sharing your fabulous photos inski. Not too many things I love more than mushrooming. Soooo looking forward to the season
and yeah I'm a chick and I bet I can out do some of you guys

Do know what you mean Ashen-Shugar. Nice finds Some of mine just dont look great lol Some are drying out too as there hasn't been that much rain and their growth is slow and stunted which is a shame.
People can post what they like. Generally the "dont be a dick" rule applies.

Haha. Yeah that's a good rule to follow, in life and in forums .
Season is still just starting, cant wait. Have a good feeling about this one.
A couple of my spots have so much variety in the color, thickness, size and shape. Is that normal with Psilocybe subaeruginosa, or maybe there are Psilocybe aucklandii and/or makarorae in the same area? It could be as simple as the substrate they sprout from?
I will have to post some pics of the variation and see if someone knows.

@Ashen-Shugar, Inski is propably best placed to answer your species question.
I believe p.Aucklandii are predominantly found in exotic pine forests on clay soils in the Auckland region. They do apparently grow in the Waitakeres also in very low numbers.
They tend to have orange-brown stems with fluff at the base, and a browner cap (as opposed to caramel). They stain very blue damn quickly too.
Question to the team, if I find p.sub with a partially dried cap (pin or mature) can they rehydrate and continue growing, or is it best to pick them?

Just a humble grab. But it's my humble grab...

Still waiting for the right conditions in Chch to really kick off. One day of decent rain is not enough. Warm dry blue skies for days now. Today beautiful hot sunshine like summer. Hideous.

Found a handful the bush today, was absolutely stoked. Woodchips around me are still dry.
Last year I found a similar patch in a different spot but it was one flush and done, just wondering if subs are likely to flush more than once per season in native bush?

Have a heavy/sedation/body stone ( sorta ) and strong eye red eyed (like a strong weed hit) bit to them as well as the normal effects. Not sure why, feels like it 's a long time (years ) production mycelium base. Also I have a urge to tip a beer or two around a few patches for some reason.
Normal subs ?, wanting to start collecting some other "exotic " types now, and the $50 note one -picture only
Couple questions, I've got a softball sized amount of lower stems and ground clump mycelium , any chance of it "finding a way " to survive relocation at this time of year for future production. (Also about a 300km move.)
what's the newest/fresh woodchip you have seen strains ?, everything I ever find is in dark aged chip, so more old-school playgrounds than new-ish subdivisions.
And I'm sure it's been asked before, would a cubes strain (GT) be able to be introduced into a self sustaining environment in NZ ?
Dont know if any new bees would like a couple tips. When scouting or harvesting, I will harvest and leave in piles rather than walking around with a bag full, then I pick them up when I leave, and another helpful tip is to pick up rubbish as you go.I have been complimented a few times for tidying up bottles etc., can harvest almost while they are talking to you, and be polite especially if it's going to be a regular spot (locals know when something's different, except palmys cop station staff apparently - anyone know if he was wearing a fluro vest and carrying a ladder ?,walking a friendly dog, picking up rubbish, etc. when you try to be "stealthy or not seen " you look pretty sketchy usually.
Hide your harvest up under dashboard or around the motor when driving home, easier than being pulled over for something else and having them be a problem. I was once pulled over (25yrs ago) with a large bag shrooms ,couple oz weed, iso in the boot and a few "A" substances, in a primer gray cortina, pretty much was asking for it, luckily they were called away before I had to say anything, now I only carry what I need at the time, not excessive quantities that I could lose or end up giving away.
