Is perlite humidity too much for a casing?
    #2586405 - 04/21/04 11:42 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Hi, my question is exactly what the subject states. Whats your opinion on this? and do you use perlite for casings and if so how good has it proven to be?

I'm using perlite in a pmp style fruiting chamber right now with a casing cased in 100% coir I'll let you know how it goes

It all depends on how big the container is. Mine are relatively small and well packed with casings, so I don?t need use any kind of humidification besides misting once in a while to keep the coir looking dark.
Now I bought a greenhouse and things changed, that?s why I said: it depends on how big the container is.

Thanks everyone, My terranium is probably going to be 2 ft x 1 ft and about 2 ft tall and probably hold 3-4 casings. Im probably going to have 4 of these terraniums all filled with 3-4 casings each so Im trying to learn a lot to minimize the risk considering its my first ever attempt at casings. How could I make sure the casings arnt getting too much humidity other than buying a hygrometer?

depends on the size of your terrarium and casing.

its not absolutely necessary

Ya, I know its not necessary but could it provide too much humidity that it fucks the casings over?

*terrarium

Too much humidity is as bad for casings as too little. It should be somewhere in the 85-95% range, 95 before pinning, 85 after.
Or 90 all the time.

I have perlite in my terrarium, the trick is to leave enough exposed perlite to do the trick. If you're gonna cover all of it with casings, even if they're propped up with a wire mesh, you're gonna limit the humidity.

Thats why I have a cool mist going every other hour in my 2 terrariums now.
