How normal are these pan cyans lookin?
    #25863116 - 03/09/19 12:55 PM (4 years, 10 months ago)

Just curious how normal these pan tubs are looking.

Both are straw/manure sub. One is cased. One is not. The one that isn't cased is a bit grayer. This is my first time cultivating them.

It is definitely the most aggressive colonizer I have ever had. Grown out on a few agar transfers first from ms.

Looks like heavily overlaid to me.  What kind of pan are they.  Pan Jamaican?

Cool beans, thank you for lookin. Not sure how to avoid the overlay :frown:

Should I recase at this point or just let it roll?  Casing mix was about 50/50 jiffy and verm

They are jamaican yep.

Jams tend to overlay.  I'm relatively new to growing pans myself but from what I understand one way to help prevent this is to colonize to 100% then let sit for another week or so covered as you did during colonization.  Then case.  This extra time supposedly settles down the overlay tendencies.

I have two trays of jams that are overlaying as well.  One I didn't let sit and one I did.  Both ultimately overlaid, however the second one wasn't nearly as bad.  The first one I'm keeping around to see if it'll fruit but honestly I think the second one is the only one with a shot.

Two other things to check out are the Official Copelandia thread.  It's LONG but has lots of good stuff in there.  Check out Jakeoncid's threads, Mary Fairchild's grows, Asura's threads, and Blue Helix's.  Lots of great stuff out there.

The other is to search for overlay and scratching.  I've heard of scoring the overlay can help but that was related to cubes.  Not sure it works for pans.

Good luck!!

Hey thanks for the tips.

So one of them is uncased... perhaps I can try casing that in the next few days or so.

I've just been lightly misting both from above in the monotub (with lid loose). Trying the whole unmodified tub tek thing to see how it pans (see what I did there?) out.

Basically... in fruiting conditions more or less as it is colonizing. Once (if) pins form I will stop misting.

I have 3 other tubs with Golden Teacher that are doing well so far. Seem to be knotting up. 1 of these tubs is a 4-5 inch depth, one is 2 inch with a casing layer and one is 2 inch with no casing layer.

Just seeing what performs best under these tub conditions.

Manure is Tennessee aged horse manure. Had it shipped a couple years back.

Both were mixed roughly 50/50 with cut straw and then pasteurized in a cooler overnight.

Both are Straight 50/50... maybe a few handfuls of verm.

Both are ratios of about 50/50 spawn/sub or so @ a 2 inch depth.

The one with casing, the casing was made with 50/50 jiffy mix and verm - NOT pasteurized. Just field capacity.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but both of those are done for. Pretty bad overlay. Casing does not work. It
will eat through the casing and overlay that, too. Even casing again after that won't work. It's been tried a
few times.

Jamaican isn't prone to overlay. There are just a lot of bad genetics being traded around. Blue Helix has done some epic grows of
Jamaican's in the past and these "overlay genetics" were new to him, too. He was sent a sample
and managed to pull it off. Check here:

Dang, that's a bummer :frown:

I guess I can try again...

Bright side, the 3 Teacher tubs are looking fine. Was just really hoping to finally get an actual pan fruit to clone.

Good news...under the circumstances.

I decided I had nothing to lose and so I forked the overlay pretty good on the cased tub.

Kept misting as normal.

Today I see there are a handful of good size pins coming up in a few spots. Some with an established stem. I'll keep a close on on them for maturity.

This at least gives me a chance to clone one of them to try again with.
