Death as a Metaphor

Uniformity versus variety...I don't know about you but to me the military is all about uniformity in dress, hairstyle and objectivity. In other words I think the military is a good example of one extreme of uniformity versus variety.

At the other end of the scale is the supposed chaos of undisciplined variety.

Variety being recognized as a necessity (one cannot live by bread alone) it infiltrates order, and by our inclination order infiltrates variety.

It is in this nexus that I find myself working on the acceptance of variety in my life while noting my inclination towards order. For instance I recognize the utility of repurposing used 1 gallon paint cans as flower pots and I also note my disinclination to use them because they affront my sense of beauty.

This sense of beauty then could be the determining factor in my decisions of what constitutes right and wrong. My choice of metaphors is limited by the parameters imposed by my sense of beauty.

I have to admit to myself therefor that personal preference plays a roll in the choice of metaphors we use.

The differences between metaphors could be an indication of someone's personal preferences that could very well conflict with my own choices should I be attempting to make the same impression because beauty is a personal preference such as the custom of body piercing and tattoos for example. So I must admit that someone else's choice of metaphor can conflict with my own ideas of what is beautiful.

The variety of metaphors is the object under scrutiny in our attempt to impress the rank and file with the ideals of uniformity.

War with it's drab uniforms, noise and loss of life and limb is in accordance with someone's taste in justice, beauty and order.

Conscientious Objectors can consider their point of view right and proper; but can the Conscientious Objector live with the unleashed variety that the utility of war hopes to lessen? No! I say the repurposed paint cans will be an affront to their sense of beauty!  and will result in remedial actions in line with their preferred methods.

'War' can be used as an expression to describe our remedial preferences regarding occurrences we dislike.

I am at war with my animal instinct of selfishness and with the selfishness of others who would foist their standards of beauty and method upon me.

With this preamble I invite you to consider and contemplate events as metaphors that may not align with our own personal preferences in the realm of fair play. Metaphors applied by older intelligences that enact their own choices in the production of the events that surround us.

I like to think that our own values and behavior have an influence on the realities we create for ourselves day by day, and that in the matter of children at play we might not want to curb their activities through the pursuit of their metaphorical deaths.

war and sex seem to be twain, so there is a clear metaphor to be evinced there.

"metaphysics is an expression of a world view" and is "thus to be regarded as an art form, resembling poetry in some ways and mathematics in others, rather than as an attempt to say something true about reality as a whole."
