I never understood this. For me, all weed highs are the same. Even when it comes to sativa and indica, it's all the same exact high and I couldn't tell the difference in a blind test

I've been smoking practically daily for 10+ years, and I certainly notice a difference that some strains have compared to others.

Now I am not saying every single strain out there has its own unique high. And I'm not saying all sativas are clear and uplifting and I'm not saying all indicas are stoney and sedating....A lot of strains do have similar characteristics and the same sort of generic high/feel, most hybrids these days do have a similar character...

....but, I will say I most certainly notice and experience a difference between some strains. Some strains do have a specific effect for me that I don't find in others. Some strains really do shine & stand out with a unique high compared to most others.




Some strains, like "Green Crack", I can not smoke before bed or else my mind will be too stimulated, constant energetic thoughts, and I find myself just laying there thinking a bunch. But this strain in the morning is like a cup of coffee, provides a nice mental "perk" and energy. This strain is not good for my anxiety though.

Some strains...like GDP, or Ogre, if I smoke these during the day they leave me feeling sedated and stoned with a cloudy headspace. Smoked before bed, they make me melt into sleep with ease.

Some strains...Such as White Fire OG, or LA confidential, have a distinct anti-anxiety and mood-lift effect for me. Like they actually melt away anxiety for me and provide a calm & focused headspace. Just the other day I was feeling super stressed out and I was kinda shaky from adrenaline, I smoked some Cherry Cookies and it mellowed me out nicely.

Not all strains will mellow me out when I'm feeling anxious though...If I'm feeling anxious and smoke something like Slymer, or Candyland, it's going to make my adrenaline sky rocket and my thoughts race where I can't think clearly and make me feel all jittery and even more anxious.

Some strains seem to make my body feel very euphoric/warm and melts away aches & pains...While some other strains don't seem to hit my body in any sort of way.

Some strains have a distinct psychedelic headspace to them (like Trainwreck or Silver Haze), some other strains seem to make my mind "numb" or dull (like Bubba Kush).


I find some strains have a high that comes on instantly, other strains take a while to fully set in....Some strains have a long lasting stone for 2 or 3 hours, some others have a relatively short high that only last an hour...Some strains will leave me feeling kinda "hazey" and "burnt out" a couple hours after smoking once the main "high" fades away, other strains don't have any of that "burn out" or cloudy feel after the "high" fades.

Some strains make me more talkative and social, some other strains make me very introverted and quiet...This is actually one thing I noticed when smoking with groups of friends...Years ago we would regularly smoke over at my buddies house on the weekends. We'd all be smoking on the same herb since my buddy sold it...Some days after smoking a certain strain everyone would be super talkative and chatty and uplifted, noisy and rambunctious, laughing & more humorous, soaring high....Other days after smoking a certain strain everyone would be very quiet, sitting on the couch stoned, just vegging out watching the TV or playing games and eating food.

I noticed how certain strains affected the dynamics of my friends when we'd hang out and smoke.





Perhaps most of the weed on the market/strains in your area have similar genetics and similar terpene & cannabinoid profiles , so you're not noticing or experiencing the other aspects of cannabis strains....A lot of strains do have similar terp/cannabinoid profiles so their high is going to be similar.

Do you notice distinct differences in the smells between the strains you get? Or does most of the herb you get have the same sort of basic "dank" smell? If most of the herb you get smells sorta the same, that's probably why.

The character of cannabis can be found in its essence/aroma. I can get an idea of the sort of high/character a strain will have just by smelling it...The terpenes are playing a major role in modulating the effects of cannabinoids.

So if the strains you come across aren't smelling much different compared to one another, then the highs aren't going to be much different.


Smoking herb that has a smell/essence of lemons, limes, cherries, & turpentine....is likely to have a different high compared to something that has an smell/essence of flowers, earth, & coffee....Or something that has an essence of butter & sweet dough is doing to have a different high than something that has an essence of gas, pine, and citrus....etc etc etc etc.

Depends on the type of extract. Some extracts are mostly THC with some terps in the mix, some extracts contain the entire spectrum of everything, some extracts are isolates and contain only on single chemical (THC, CBD, CBN, etc etc...). There are lots of different extracts out there.

Things like shatter, typical BHO, is mostly THC and very little terpenes but there is some in the mix....I don't notice much of a difference in the high at all between BHO made from different strains. All dabs of BHO/shatter is basically the same to me as far as the high goes, I don't notice much difference.






But!!!....Extracts such as "Full spectrum" extracts, which contain everything that's within the trichome and none of the plant matter/fats/waxes/lipids, they most certainly do hold the unique characteristics of the strains since they retain the entire spectrum of terps and cannabinoids. Their flavor is un-real and their high is super "rich" ... Stuff like this>>>

And then there is also isolated THCa...Which is just straight up THC (in acid form, turned into THC once it's dabbed)...

One funny thing I have always noticed is that when I build a tolerance to one kind of weed, smoking a different kind will get me totally ripped.
