The effects can certainly shape-shift, and it does make sense if you look into the pharmacology and mechanisms of action that the many different components of cannabis have, and how complex things get with the way they interact/influence/modulate one another.....It is not so drastic/exaggerated to the point that some strains are like a stimulant or like an opioid. But yea, some strains do put me into deep relaxation and some other strains leave me clear headed and not as stoned.
A THC high is a THC high....but I think you're forgetting that there is far more than just THC in the bud of cannabis, THC is what produces the dominant effect but all of the other components do have an influence on the overall character of the effect. Some strains contain cannabinoids that are not at all present in others, such as CBN, CBD, and THC-V, these are "drugs" that are not found in all strains....A strain that contains THC-V will be noticeably different compared to a strain that was harvested late and contains relatively high CBN. Neither of those are likely to be found on the market because strains containing THC-V are rare, and most strains are harvested before CBN forms (but just giving examples of different components in cannabis that can have a big influence on the type of effect that's experienced.) And there are waaaaaay more components in the herb than just those few.
The plant produces dozens & dozens of different cannabinoids which have different effects and influence one another, and 100s of different terpenes which can modulate and influence the effects of cannabinoids....depending on the chemical make up/profile, concentration, and ratio of these components there are many different possible nuances in types of effects one might experience.
I think you're sorta exaggerating or have the wrong impression about what an uplifting/clear strain is like and what a relaxing/stoney strain is like. It really is not so drastic that one end of the spectrum is a full on stimulant and the other is a heavy opioid...it's not like that.
So you believe LSD can hold a variety of different characteristics merely depending on the chemist that made it or depending on the synth the chemist used, and you believe each batch of LSD has it's own certain effect because of this...Even though LSD is only one single active chemical and contains no other components which influence or modulate the effects of that one single chemical...But when it comes to cannabis, which contains many different active components, containing 100s of different components that all interact with one another and having literally thousands of different potential combinations of chemical profiles..You don't believe it's possible for these different chemical profiles to change the overall character of a weed high?....You believe one single chemical (LSD) can produce different effects/characteristics merely depending on who made it/how it was made, but you do not believe it is possible for there to be some nuances in the effects between the many different chemical profiles of cannabis....?

Weed makes me reserved, calm, and reclusive....
I have...
Tangie is one strain that can me motivated to do things......Or rather I'll say, it doesn't deter me from getting shit done during the day. It doesn't make me "stoned". It's bright & clean tangerine/citrus aroma is reminiscent of its headspace/high.
Last summer I was smoking this strain early in the day for a while...It was a nice start to the day and didn't leave me stoned or in a haze. In comparison, if I smoked something like bubba kush early in the day like I did with the Tangie I would not want to get up off the couch and I would be left in a cloudy headspace for most of the day....With that said, it's not like the Tangie made me feel like I was on a "stimulant", I was still in a very mellow/high/weed headspace and would have no problem kicking back and relaxing, it just was not a heavy/sedating stoney effect and I could go about my day as usual without being in a stoned/cloudy headspace.
I regularly smoke before I have certain activities to do...like yard work & gardening, or cleaning the house, or before going on a bike ride, or running errands, or while snowboarding, etc etc......but I don't smoke a strain that's going to make me stoned & sedated, otherwise I would be...well, stoned.
Most of the strains you've smoked likely have a very similar cannabinoid/terp profile, that's probably why they all have a similar effect to you.....A lot of strains out there do have a generic/similar high (regardless of their sativa or indica label)........and if you mostly only puff on carts/extracts, high THC distillates, then all you're getting is mostly THC and they'll all have the same sort of generic high regardless of what "strain" they came from.
