About to case some B+
    #2585803 - 04/21/04 03:10 AM (13 years, 4 months ago)

what up everyone . this is my second grow, first was cased puerto ricans which turned out fine. This time around Im casing B+. With my first grow I kept my casing in a cardboard box covered by an A/C filter. This time around I'm thinkin of something that may be a better environment - I know most different methods but am wanting some personal suggestions. So fellow casers and those experienced with B+, do you think a fish tank is fine - maybe add a layer of perlite - although it seems as though casings keep their humidity fine especially when in a terrarium. So suggest if you will

perlite in a rubbermaid, with airlines along the bottom, would seem to be the natural progression for you.

get yr perilite wet then drain in a collander
this will give you the correct moisture content to keep up humidity in a rubbermaid or fish tank

if your doing casings/bulk perlite is really unnessary and added hassle, you only need it for cakes. casing hold there own humidity. you can just throw a casing into a rubbermaid and it will fog up just like if you had perlite in there. also the way you ask the question it sounds like you think you have to mix the perlite in with the actual substrate/casing which isn't right just so you know, the perlite goes into the chamber not with the substrate/casing. yeah they're talking about the airwands at pet stores and it goes under the perlite, about water just add enough to come like halfway to the top of the perlite, you want to leave the top little dry to wick up humidity better :stoned:

im about to start my first grow too. im using a styrofoam cooler w/ plexy glass on top and another slanted inside to collect moisture. oh and perlite in the bottom. also i read that i should put dextrose powder and oyster shell powder in my substrate? if not then im gonna use verm, brown rice flour, and water. cool?

I take a rubbermaid, do a 50/50 inch layer of soil and vermiculite, next comes the crushed up cake, then a layer of potting soil, maybe half cow dung this time around...first casing had lots of growth. This time i though of sticking the tray into a fish tank with a layer of perlite on the bottom, i feel its not really needed but thought i'd get further comments - i need some vermiculite and am having trouble finding a bad right now, but i'll update ya'll when i get this op up and goin...lata
